very nice pin set, but green mold is present

I'm not really sure what to do... I've got a 2 quart casing of EQ in the fruiting chamber right now that has a very nice pin set on it, but it has a green mold infection creeping up from the bottom of it.

I originally had the casing in a bread pan, but removed it and dunked it b/c it wasn't pinning. When I took it out, I didn't put it back in the bread pan, I just set it on top of some foil.

Now the pins are all on the top of the casing, and the green mold is coming from underneath so there aren't really any pins in direct proximity to the mold, but is it still safe to eat these?

Thats a tough call to make , the green mold as you described should be killing off the mushies very soon .
Would I eat "anything" that came from a potentially contamed tray.... NO , better safe than sorry I always say .

How do you know green mold is coming up from the bottom ?
How do you dunk "casing" ?
If these are cakes in a pan , it could just be bruising from you man handleing the cake .

Get some more opinons , I'm just another fool  :wink:

I would definately avoid eating mushrooms that are possibly contaminated. If you do decide to eat them, maybe try giving them to your cat or dog first, if they die... its better than you needing an organ transplant.

Again, i wouldnt eat 'em. But like the last guy said, im no expert.

what?! never give shrooms to a dog or cat, man... that's insane. I hope to god that was a joke. Don't you like to have a choice in what substances you ingest?

What about my pet "lab rat" ?  He loves the stuff  :wink: :crazy2:
But I would never give him ones that were potentially contamed  :smirk:

I wouldn't eat'em. You think they picked up the contam when you removed them from the pan prior to dunking?

i've had green mold on a casing and saved the casing from it.

look up Hippie3's post on using salt to fight trichoderma mold.

i ate the mushies off of the casing without any problems, but the mold hardly got a hold before i killed it. green mold starts as a white mass and turns green when it sporulates. i'd get a hot, sterilized knife, cauterize the mold out, salt the wound, and hope for the best. keep a close eye on it...

but if you don't feel like chancing it with that contam, throw it out fast or it'll spread to everything else in your fruiting chamber.

i'm not condoning eating possibly contamed mushies, i'm just saying it's been done before with green mold and i'm still here. :smile:

i don't have the heart to throw out a casing with a good pinset just because it's having trouble fighting off the grean meanie.
