Ever fired anyone?

I have to fire my secretary. SHe's been working for me for about a year and just sucks. Dingy as shit. I've been holding on hoping she'd come around but she just isn't, so I guess it's time to fire her. Here's the thing. It's Christmas time and all. I'm taking two weeks off and she's taking the last week of Dec. off, and my thought is it's better to go ahead and give her notice before Christmas so she has time to look for a new job over the break, but what a sucky thing for her to have to do. So, should I do it now or wait until after the Holidays? It's never easy I guess, but I'm gonna have to do it. So what do you think? Serious responses appreciated.

it is the only thing to do. it may seem dickish, but you are giving her 3 extra weeks to find a new job.

Yeah, give her some notice, and a nice severance package for the Holidays (if you can afford it). Thats assuming you care about her.
If you're just sick of her crap and you can't take it anymore...just can the broad!

Jim- I really appreciate it. I may be able to get some sleep now. I've been debating this all night but seems like that's the way I was headed and you confirmed for me what I was thinking. Gracias, mon amigo.

damn that sux, see the problem is nobody hires until january cuz the fiscal year ends on dec. 31st for most corps or firms. so its doubtful she'll find something until then. plus loosing a job around Xmas is really depressing.
but you gave her a whole year and she still didnt pan out so dont beat yourself up about it.
ive fired two people b4 and i felt bad both times, but they just couldnt handle the job and it was costing us. you can only be sooo nice sometimes.

maybe shes not good at being a secretary and after you fire her she'll realize that and become a hooker, hah, no jk. seriously though, maybe shell find something thats shes better at that is mutually rewarding. i wouldn't like doing something i wasn't good at but everyone wants to be nice so they let it slide and pick up the slack for me. oh yeah and id tell her before. honest is always the best
