Help save some pedro and torch seedlings.
    #3477089 - 12/10/04 05:39 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

I have a butt load of san pedro and peruvian torch seedlings. There about 3 months old, and there is green thick moss growing rapidly around them, the seedlings still seem to be healthy and growing well, but im very worried about this moss. Does anyone know how i can get rid of the moss without disturbing the seedlings?? Any help would be much apreciated.

pull em and lay low on the water supply maybe?

Cacti can survive no water, moss cannot.

How big are the pups? Are they big enough to pull and let callous?

Moss? I had green algae running through my trays, i mixed 50% bleach and water and carefully dabbed the densest patches then the next day I sprinkled over a layer of sand to drown it out. It seems to be slowly seeping through again though but it isn't thriving.

I hear 10% hydrogen peroxide 90% water works

Dont pull them out and dont let the soil dry out. Seedlings cant handle dryness as well as mature cacti.

Try a spray of diluted peroxide. How tall are you seedlings? Are they tall enough that you could completely cover the growth with sand and still have a significant portion of the cactus about the sand? Is there any growth or damage to the seedlings themselves? Cout you removed the growth without damaging the cacti?

Hydroponic setups keep a little black plastic mat around the plant to stop algae form growing. I dont think algae forms unless there is alot of humidity and hydration + light?
