Guitars go out of tune for 3 reasons. Cheap ass tuners, old strings or brand new strings.
For a guitar to be so crappy it keeps going out of tune you should be able to see the neck move from the body when you push on it.
Unless the neck is lose from the body I'd say a set of Grover tuner heads can fix the worst guitar.
I lived with cheap ass warped crappy guitars for 15 years and a nice new set of Grover tuner heads fixed any tuning problems.

Get an Ovation I am in love with mine, i don't think i could live without it. it's the purest sounding guitar i've ever owned, and the round back makes it very comfortable to hold onto. mine is an acoustic-electric, sounds great by itself or plugged in..get one!

I had an Ovation 2 in fact and the only thing they are good for is to look at.
They do sound good. But they just roll around like a jelly donut. Very uncomfortable both standing and sitting.
I sold them years ago

You should just go ahead and get a new guitar and then grow shrooms on/in this one

The only problem with these (if they are the ones I am thinking of) is during temperature changes, when wood expands and plastic doesn't. They tend to crack themselves after time. suimush: If the guitar you were talking about was an electric I would ask if it had a floating bridge, and if so I'd block it unless you absolutely need it. I just picked up a hohner hs35 and That's always gonna have .11's flatwounds on it. I had flatwounds on my strat ripoff for a while and those things stayed in tune sooo well. I love 'em.

I really want to get a guitar, but have no where to start. I've always loved all types of music, and get swept with nostalgia every time I hear zeppelin. But at 18... is that too late? I guess I'd feel a bit like a poser, but who knows, I'm pretty good at playin the air guitar. Heavy riffs in the shower lol
