Hanky, Umm, no.  Your avatar hasn't taken over.  I have an idea of how you look.  So, no, to answer your question, I do NOT imagine a spinning dog's anus raving about pedophiles, scat, and the poor quality of Austrian food.

I'm also not trying to suggest that because a person uses little or no capitalization or punc, that they have no personality, they just just a less colourful personality.

Like jeans and a t-shirt compared to a hardcore punk or something.  But just because someone is 'jeans and t-shirt' doesn't mean that they're boring.

There are all kinds of different t-shirts.  I wear t-shirts.  But sometimes I wear toe socks and gillette always tells me that if she is ever shopping for me, she'll go find the one thing that looks absoloutly rediculous, and I'll always love it.
My favourite sense is nonsense.

It is a little bit of a few things all mixed together in a "expressive alphabet soup" if you really want to analyze it....  It has to do with:  personallity/charactor, style/creativeness, ego/passiveness-agressiveness, articulation/vocabulary, how colorful you are actually able to paint the picture, and lastly actual experience of putting thoughts thru text....  Maybe there are more factors that I am missing, like actual typing ability...?  LoL  34yrs, and I am still a hunt and peck typer...!   .  I am also a bit of a perfectionist - as a trait, not just in typing....  There are certain werds~ that I purposely spell wrong because I think Mr. Webster went a little too far in some of the exotic ways and alternate spelling for the same sounds in our language....  And I am a rebel DaMMiT...!  LoL  Heeeeeh....

I am also the jeans and T-shirt type, but I prefer jean shorts summer and winter (inside)....  Outside in the winter I where jeans of course....

It is funny that I have noticed a few people that kinda~ stick out in my mind as having distinctive styles when they post, with certain nuances or "text traits"....  I have not been on as much lately, but I remember a few people that stood out enough for me to write this - without actually going and sneaking a peak at how they write them....

GDMan for instance....  <SmerK~>  He almost always has two consecutive single sentence posts for each of his answers....     He answers with a very simple and clear answer....  Twice....  But I think hidden deep in his subliminal mind, he also seems to strives for the high postcount score....!    HeeHee

ToiletDuk, To me, it doesn't matter what he says because when I see that funny picture of that RaBBit-Cat smoking a cigarette, it makes me laugh every friggin time it pops on the screen....!

BabyHitler, thru my eyes - very bold theme indeed...!  I am not offended personally, but I have wondered if there were people that might get offended by it all....?  That bouncing car with Hitler in it is so absurd...!  Very creative if he/she made that themselves....

FuckKnuckle(sp?), I remember the posts like:  "Man, get off your soapbox/pedestal, get yer~ head out of your ass, take a chill pill and smoke some weed man...."  And the person *usually* replies with:  "Yeah, your right, I need to chill out, I am just in a bad mood...."  (This is all general speaking, not verbatem)....  It's like a slap in the face, then he passes you a peace pipe offering....  LoL    .  Seems to be effective...!   The power of the suggestion of weed....  Very calming indeed....!

WiccanSeeker, I really like reading his posts...!  He is VERY THOROUGH in the information he lays out almost like a formal document - going way in depth, and arguing with himself out loud to prove both sides of a point....    Each post is peppered with the evil grins  , with funny short bits of intelligent sarcasm....  He is also very passionate about certain topics that he has had to deal with in his life, and bravely tries to emphasize a strong warning to people considering experimenting in one of those topics....  I dunno~, I find most of his posts on substances very interesting, and I like his sorta~ opinionated and sometimes aggressive style of getting his point across....

TomK, AKA The Dream Leaf DoooooD, it is always cool when you make a comment to someone, and they use that for everyone to see....!  For the record, I had deemed him "The Dream Leaf Doooood" after he posted a very descriptive write-up on Dream Leaf (Chalea Zacatechichi), and his extensive experiences with the plant....  I always appreciate reading his style of articulated and well thought out posts....

Then there is the HeavyToilet....  It just makes me wonder....  How heavy is the toilet....?  And if the answer is that the toilet is really really heavy, it makes me wonder if the saying: "Quality is better than Quantity" applies to this type of thing....?    But I guess whole notion of "Quality, Quantity, and Heavy Toilets" is a kinda~ strange combination for an actual discussion....!?     And just for the record, I don't like being hit....

~Desiree~, always impresses me that when someone publicly says something negative to/about her (sometimes for no apparent reason), and she is always able to take it in stride, keep her cool, and not get involved in wasting her time on these types of people lookin to "stir the pot"....!  Somehow I find it kinda~ classy in my book....

TastySmurf always has the duty of posting the "Only Girls Celebrate Post Counts" picture for those obsessed with the number of posts they have....!  It is such an innocent and funny way to apply a generous smack down for those "on a mission to get a high score"....  It always makes me laugh out loud, and I have never seen anyone succesfully recover with a post after that....!

It is kinda~ strange when someone changes their avatar....  The association of the picture to the name must be pretty strong for me because it takes a little bit to get used to a new one....  It is also confusing sometimes trying to figure out if some people are male or female....  When someone has some sort of female image or feminine avatar, for some reason my brain wants me to automatically think that the person is female....  Speaking of avatars....

Ellmyshade, I noticed that you changed your avatar and I had a question for you....  I wondered if you did it on purpose, or if it was a subconscious symbolic thing that just happened....?  When you finally broke thru on your successful aya voyage, it seems that about the same time you changed your avatar....  It really shows how profound of an effect it had on you and your life to change how we all perceived your presence on the boards - if you read into it a little....  I dunno~, I thought it was pretty cool....

One other funny thing I notice, when people have naked chicks in the pictures of their sigs, or avatars (some of them are even moving booobs and stuff...!), I can never remember ANY of the screen names of those people....!!!  LoL  I guess my attention goes mostly to the naked chick pics in those posts...!  LoL     .  (Insert "typical guy" comment here....!)  That's ok, I like to read the pictures....

Ya know, I don't know why I typed all of this on a seemingly passing thread....!??  Guess I just understood what CherryBomb meant, and had a little time to spare...!    LoL  .  I do think it is pretty neat that everybody has a distinctive personality that shines thru with how they happen to plant those little black and white letters (depending on your color scheme)....  There are definitely people that I have missed here, but I need to go to bed....!

Y'all have a happy Thanksgiving....!

i dont capitalize or use apostrophes on principle.  punctuation serves a purpose, the other two rarely do.  the only time an apostrophe makes a difference is "we're" versus "were", and i make a point of putting it in them.  lack of capitalization and apostrophes is simply a practicality, its largely useless. but hey, if you feel better about yourself by following arbitrary rules of english grammar, more power to ya

Awww damn, I was hoping to come home and see that the people I wrote about had comments of their own about what I had written - all in good fun...!

Moving Target, honestly I don't spend the majority of my time at the Shroomery in the pub....  Mostly ODD, TripTips, General Questions, the Art Forum, and every once in a while I frequent the Spiritual forum....  I DO remember your swirling 3D pot leaf, and your cool sig picture that seems to slowly evolve...!  And not positive, but I think most of your posts are short...?    I really do like how people use the smileys (what I cal "smileys") to help express their thoughts....

There are a few signature quotes that have seemed to have stuck in my mind....

~Desiree~ with her "Why not go out on a limb, that is where the fruit is" quote....  Think about it, it is true...!

Gandhi, (I think I spelled his name right?)  Has a quote that has stuck with me since the first time I read it....  "Be the change that you would like to see...."  Or something to that effect....  I really like that one....!

There are so many others that I would have to go browsing around to jolt my memory, but I got a friend coming over to play some Quake III Arena in a few, so maybe I will continue this a little more later on when I have time...!?    I hate writing a bunch of stuff that nobody ever gets a chance to read tho~...!

i like my no real punctuation... lack of capital letters... extremely bad paragraph structure... and completely 'off' way of posting...

if i were to take the time to do it right, i'd forget what i wanted to say before i got it down... i'd be too worried about errors... this way... it doesn't matter... i can fly off the handle, and to me it looks just like it did when it went through my head...

i'm curious now as to what you thought of me before you met me, though... hmmm...

--

It's just human nature to make an initial judgement based on someones voice on the phone, or someones style of writing. Words on paper(or screen) can be pretty powerful if you know how to use and control them.

Take a good novel, for instance. To me, the best books are the ones that put a picture in your head of every character without ever actually describing them physically. Then, if and/or when you find out who the character actually is, you're left realizing that what you thought you knew was completely off.

The same can be said for speaking someone in person or on the phone, too. The words a person throws at you will play as much a part in your perception of them as what they look like. Controlling the speed, the volume, the pitch of your voice is how you get people to actually *hear* you, right?

it's the same with paper... you write to your friends differently than you'd write to the dean of your school.. differently than you'd write to your family... all to give them a different view of yourself...

I agree, to the reader or listener, it has to do with perception, as well as the imagination of the person reading or listening as to what actual picture is painted in ones mind....  As you stated, there is also the different forms of writing based on writing to your friends/family vs. a technical letter....  In technical writing you are supposed to write without emotion and just clearly state the facts....  I would think that it would be very difficult to form a conclusion of personallity from a technical letter - conclusively - just because of the lack of emotion....

Moving Target,  You have screwed me up with changing all of your pics and stuff...!!!  LoL...!  But it also shows that you have a good sence of humor, and creativity...!    I do like your style of art, if indeed you make your own pics (which I am assuming you do)....  Its all good man, it is however funny that a post written by little ole' me (really a nobody - or virtual a stranger) inspired you to change your stuff, just for the sake of fun...!  Cool in my book...!

WrestlerAZ, Your question marks about Desiree makes me think that you have seen more about her than I have...?    Again, I do not read every post by everybody, and spend little time in the Pub, and absolutely no time reading in the OTD forum....  So, my writing was only based on what I have seen only....

Just my thoughts....
