How long do spores take to grow on whole grain?
    #340882 - 06/14/01 06:36 PM (23 years, 7 months ago)

I have heard that it is best to use shroom water or mycelium to inoculate whole grain. But is its still cool to just use spores? And how much longer might it take for my jars to colonize? I was thinking about adding some BR flour to my whole grain thinking that it might help the spores to germinate easier.
Any comments?

Sounds like the flour will help out a bit. Here's a nice piece of advice, don't fill your jars too full. The best thing about using grain is that you can shake it madly to evenly distribute the mycelia around after it's grown for a couple days. Birdseed tends to clump, so you have to pound the hell out of it. You will get very fast colonization this way.
