Started! waiting! :(

So today my aquarium heaters and airpump arrived. After I inoculated 8 PF cakes and a pint of popcorn. So the incubation room is now a true tub in tub, temp there is about 81-82 F now. I think that will do, the next time I check on them I will raise a bit though.
But now I have to wait!! That sucks. Buttt I can build my fruiting chamber and test on it. That only takes some hours, after that: waiting again!
Ok before this I still need to buy some Geolite, a big bag of vermiculite (for casings, rolling and future growings), casing containers and a Hydrometer.
I noticed my tub in tub is too small as well, only 10 pf-cakes fit there tightly while my Fruiting Tub has space for 20 cakes. (with 2" in between them)
One of these days I will also buy another strain I am thinking about the GT. And I wanna be able to make own sporeprints, so I can make own syringes in the future. Reading upon that stuff will also help me kill the time....
Btw I am afraid that the cakes are a bit too dry... (40ML brf, 140ML VERM, 40ML water) I put a DRY (20ML) verm layer on top, maybe that is not too smart?
Ok just some thoughts of a starting grower!

I think you are okay, but your colonization time will suffer a bit.
Still experimenting, but the magic number seems to be 50cc. 45cc definitely lagged behind. But again, I think you'll be okay.

the cake recipe most use is 2 parts verm, 2 parts flour, to 1 part water. 3/4 to 1/2 that much water always worked better for me, so I'd say your good. best of luck. godspeed to the rhizomorphs!

I always recommend max fruiting formula. 1/4 cup BRF 1/2 cup verm 60cc water. I'm experiment to change that max fruiting formula, because the formula is based on old info. I don't know who uses 2 part verm/2partBRF/1part water... none of the Teks call for that either. Unless this is what you get from eyeballing. Did I miss this from any PF Teks? Sam

2/1/1 verm/brf/water. my mistake! with that ratio you'd have a brick, not a cake!

I have few bricks... the experiment I mentioned includes jars mixed at 1/4 cup verm and 1/2 cup BRF. I'll post the results after 3rd flush on all 16jars.

Thanks Sam and Simplemachine, Lots of different formulas out there. I relatively used: 64% verm 18% water 18% brf Sam I see you use twice as much verm then water, but my formula has more then 3 times more verm then brf. Simplemachine I see him having this: 50% verm 25% water 25% brf I really hope it will be fine! Should I stick to the 2/1/1 formula next time? I have less water and less nutrition...

Its all relative, people use different mixtures as an experiment due to their conditions. More verm (especially coarse) will speed up the colonization process but take away valuable nutrients from your substrate, as well as possibly dry things up halting or slowing growth. I would have tried both if I were you, that way youll know when the jars are finished which was more effective.

Yeah mate but that is mustard after the meal, as they say here.. :P
Meaning, too late to try that out for now. I will xperiment with different mixes later in my proces as a mushroom cultivator though.. Orrr maybe I leave the cakes soon and go further with grain.
THanx!

Next time, stick with max fruiting formula. I will be done with my experiments soon and can give you guys a better view on formulas and effectiveness of each...
I posted about it few weeks back before I started.
For now, max fruiting formula.
1/2 cup verm(coarse preferred) 1/4 cup BRF 60cc water

Hi Sam, Yes I saw you before posting about some experiments. I read about the MAx Fr.Formula before but I have to figure out how many CC a cup is.... I like to stick to one measure. Will try that mff next time! PS: what is "coarse"?

Don't you have metric scale on the other side of measuring cup? mine does.
let's see... I think discman1 did the conversion before...
60cc = 1/4 cup + 1/8tsp + 3 drops
There ya go

LOL!
If I translate, one cup is about 1/2 pint = 1/4 liter. 1 liter = 4,2 cup
So 1/2 cup would be 1/8 liter or 125 ML So 1/4 cup is like 1/16 liter or 62,5 ML If I add 1/8 tsp + 3 drops to 60CC that would be like 62,5CC/ML
But for the sake of simpleness I equal 60CC to 1/4 cup.
So my "MFF" is gonna be V/B/W 0,5 cup / 0,25 cup / 0,25 cup Or 1,0 0,5 0,5 cup Or 1/2 1/4 1/4 pint Or 2 1 1 pint Or 1,0 0,5 0,5 Liter Or ......
Im gonna bookmark this calculation!

Still waiting!
So started Friday. Sunday/ monday I increased roomtemperature to 80F I got my heater Tuesday and put the power in my tub in tub. Started at 82F and since yesterday it is almost constant at 86F.
Some jars show 1 or 2 very very tiny fluffy spots. (after 6 days) Hope that is colonizing starting.
In the meantime I ordered a digital thermo/hygrometer. And still need some geolite for the PmP. And vermiculite for the rolling casing and coming grows.
The rest is in place but when the hygrometer arrives I wanna test my PmP so then I must have all the PmP ingredients here.
In the meantime reading about sporeprints and making syringes rye casings etc....
Adios amigos!

Pfffft, are you kidding me...
Max fruiting formula is sooooo outdated.
You need the Supra Ultra Maximum fruiting formula....
1/2 cup Vermiculite
1/4 cup Brown Rice flower
1/8 Cup Plutonium Powder
2 cups Chemical X
Thats the only way to get real results.

So guys I checked up my jars again today and in 5-6 out of 8 there are small white fluffy things on a few spots. Some being as small as a narrow pupil (1-2 mm) from the eye of a human. the biggest as big as an almost wide pupil (3-5 mm).. even the pint of popcorn is showing some mycelium on different spots, there is no water in the bottom of the jar and some popcorns appear "cracked" maybe due to I pc-ed them an hour, before I jarred them and PC-ed them 45 mins again... I think the mycelium is growing slow in the jars due to low humidity (I used 40CC in pf jars, 40CC BRF, and 140CC Verm) and due to the fact that the temp has been 86F only since wednesday. Monday and tuesday it was like 80-82, the days before that somewhere in the low 70-ies. I started the jars last Friday, and the pint of popcorn in the night saturday-sunday. I inoculated the pint with 1,1CC of sporewater. I shaked it some days later since i 4got that after inoculation. Most mycelium is on the bottom. Will update in some days with pics. EDIT: Any people having xperience with adding water to pf jars afterwards? Id like to add 5-10CC of boiled water to each of them with a more or less sterile syringe. (CAn syringes be PC-ed?)

Now colonisation aint improving a lot here. Still I think it is due to the low water-% and, I forgot that before, maybe because I did not shake the syringe before inoculting the jars.
