allergic reaction to cyans???! Please help

I picked a small patch of cyans a few days ago and a friend of mine ate one small mushroom, she felt great. When she woke the next morning she had hives or a rash on her midsection and her face. Its been three days and its spreading.
Now I AM ABSOLUTLY POSITIVE WE ONLY PICKED THE CYANS, however there was what I think may ahve been a galerina(red cap white stem 1 in. tall) growing w/ this patch in particular, could some of the poisons rubbed off onto the other mushrooms? We didnt wash them before ingesting or after picking, by the way, please tell me what the possibilities are before I tell this girl to get her ass to the emergency room!

I dunno dude, it sounds like yall shouldn't be picking and eating mushrooms in the first place if this happened.. And besides.. one small cyan is not enough to trip 'great'... maybe barely noticeable... She probably ate a bad one and it was placebo.. PS... it is probably poison oak from the hunt... I don't think mushrooms will make u break out, and SPREAD.. but hey, it could be anything.. doctor= a good idea

ive never really looked up the symptons for galerina poisoning, but more or less i would say that rash was not caused by consuming the shroom. However natural rashes occur, thats probably how she got the rashes. I mean come on, consuming a mushroom cause skin irritation? shrooms will most likely do something to your digestive system, i think. But hey better to be safe than sorry

Those aren't symptoms of Galerina poisoning. I think it is just what you said it was, an allergic reation. Perhaps it wasn't even from the mushrooms and it's just a coincidence that it happened the day after she ate one.

A rash as you've described is not a typical symptom of any of the normal types of mushroom poisoning. As Gumby said, it is typical of an allergic reaction. Try treating it as you would poison ivy or hives.
If she develops difficulty with breathing, that would be an allergic symptom that means she needs to get to an emergency room right away. Another thing to watch for would be the rash developing on the inside of the throat.
Beyond that, use common sense. If you think things are bad enough that you would ordinarily go see a doctor, go see one.

Did she walk through some posion oak? Its around bay area and can be in the parks. Today we noticed we had been hunting around poison oak all day, tons of it - and we all got lucky and didn't get any on us.

exactly - it is an allergic reaction - you wouldnt expect an allergic reaction to come on that late and increase that long after consumption - but stranger things have happened. Ps.cyanescens are one of the most mushrooms - but one small specimen would not trip anyone...

A warning Strep and Staph both cause skin rashes and are reaching epidemic levels of incidence This is serious especially if there is fever. At this point I would warn anyone who gets a strange rash to see a dr immediatly. Staph and strep of this type is causing septicemia and death on a whole new level recently. One briar scratch is enough to cause this so do not take this warning lightly. I hope it is only allergy but most allegies due to mushies do not cause a rash (until your liver is dead)Good luck WR

Correct! I have read that a rash IS a symptom of latter stage mushroom poisoning... which has concerned me as well.
I recently have had encounters of the rashing type as well and believe a PM I sent to toxicman helped with the problem. I think my dog and I got ourselves into some CHIGGERS. I had no idea what they are and where they were...but the symptoms and reactions fit closest to the malady.
Do a search on Chiggers. Their lifestyle, feeding habits and the reactions they cause.
For my dog and I it is an ITCHY rash...and it SUCKS more than anything I've ever had. I can control (somewhat) my own itching, but my dog has been in hell since we had this start several weeks ago.
Moisturizer on her skin may help. Keep it NATURAL though! Calendula is a good herb base for the skin as well as Aloe Vera. Something fragrance free and light and natural is helpful. Also Baking Soda baths.
I am unaware of the strep/staph issue so I'll have to research that one.
Good luck!
Rashes SUCK!

fresh, in a paper bag dry, use desiccant to make cracker dry and they can be stored almost anywhere cool and dry.

i gave some friends mushrooms a few days ago, liberty caps. the girl had the same problem, red patches on her chest and around her body and complained of difficulty breathing. she came through it ok tho.
i couldn't really explain it, i figured it was just a reaction to the panic. as she was QUITE overwhelmed.
