I'll be on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"

Does anyone watch this show?  My wife watches all those home improvement shows but I can't stand them.  But, whether I like it or not, I am going to be a part of an upcoming episode.

They are filming an episode here in Vegas next weekend.  In 4 1/2 days they are going to completely demolish this familys home and build a new one in its place.  My company is contracted to do the concrete house slab.

About 2 years ago we were involved in a project that aired on TV called "The 50 Hour House".  They built an entire house from scratch in 5 10-hour work days.  We did the concrete slab on that house so the producers of 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' approached us to do this project.

To be honest, I didn't want to be involved.  But it was not up to me.  The boss wanted his best men on the job, and that means me, so I am stuck.

Next Friday (October 29th) the project starts at 7 am.  By that night they will have demolished the old house and prepared the lot for a new one.  Thats where I come in.  I will be digging the trenches for the pluming in the house (I operate a backhoe) while a wheel-tencher trenches the footings for the concrete slab.  My whole  part will take about 30 minutes or less but I have to commit to be there from about 7 pm until about 3 or 4 am Saturday morning.

I'm really not happy about this, but my wife is stoked.  They will be giving me tickets for her to go down and watch the production.  And she'll score some free T-shirts and other junk.  And rumors are that there will be 2 or 3 famous movie stars there to meet-n-greet and sign autographs.  She might even get to take part in the "mad dash" where they show all the people running toward the house at the start.

Personally, I think this is all a bunch of BS.  I would be willing to bet I am never on TV.  Any footage of me at work will end up on the cutting room floor (I mean, who wants to see a machine digging trenches?).  And I'm not real happy about blowing off my entire Friday night doing this.  But, I am getting paid for all my hours and my wife is excited since she likes the show.

I'll be sure to let you know when the episode will air (if you even give a shit....I wouldn't if I was you :smirk:).  It will most likely air in late November.

you gotta do a shroomery shoutout dude - wear an shroomery orange tshirt or do some weirdo handsignal. maybe wear a tshirt that just says "goatse" - no one will know what it means.

I was gonna wear a t-shirt from my band, but they said they are gonna make us all wear the same t-shirt, hard hat, etc. But like I said, I doubt I'll ever be seen on TV anyway.

Maybe if I meet someone famous I can get them to hold a Shroomery sign for me and take a pic....

As far as reality tv goes, its probably one of the better programs. At least people might learn something from it. Better than watching people eat donkey testicles. I always enjoyed "This Old House" on PBS. Don't watch to much tele nowadays, except for the Simpsons. Incidentally, where you the one who posted the time-lapse vid of your backhoing skills way back when?

Yeah, that was my video of the backhoe work. Its still here.

For some reason the quality seems even worse then when I first posted it. I have a high quality version on my computer but its too large to upload.

I guess they sometimes do a remodel, sometimes they add an addition, sometimes more. On this particular house they are completely demolishing the old house and building a brand new one. The new house will be quite large and have a lot of nice shit, even a swimming pool. And yes, the family gets everything for free in the end.
