Timothy Leary - "Turn On,Tune In, Drop Out (ESP)" (mp3s)
    #3252410 -

Fellow Shroomerites, tonight I have for you either the coolest or second coolest files i've ever shared with you. I have for you Timothy Leary's extremely rare 1966 album "Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out"(ESP label version). This is not the album of the same name from 1967, which can be found on Amazon.com or anywhere cd's are sold. This album has amazingly never been released on cd, either officially or on bootleg.

I acquired this from the webmaster of www.lysergia.com . He recorded the record on to cd and sent it to me along with a rare Gerald Heard album(which I will share soon). Here's a copy and paste from his site about the album....

Quote:
Original release: ESP 1027, US 1966

No producer credited

Engineered by David Hancock

Narrated by Timothy Leary

Comments: Leary's rarest LP is also one of his best. Recorded at Millbrook and all spoken word, this is similar to the Pixie LP but much more entertaining. Mixing recollections from earlier experiments with thoughts on contemporary events, this is as confrontational and subversive as he ever got. The LP title slogan later became tired, but here it seems newly coined and is presented as a rallying cry for the youth of America against the older generations. Hearing this makes you realize why he was once perceived as "the most dangerous man alive". Great LP, and still unknown to many. No reissue yet.

Note: this has the same title as the 1967 Mercury LP, but the contents are completely different.

Download this album and share it. It's a rare piece of psychedelic history that many people would love to have. Below the links is the front cover of the album. Enjoy.............

Thanks Learyfan! I'm gonna listen to this later tonight.

Oh and GloryOfBlaze you should know that at the end of that movie where they show Timothy Leary's head being chopped off is a complete hoax. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by family and friends and away from any cameras. He was cremated and some of his ashes were shot into space. I don't like that movie because of that fraudulent scene. I believed it too when I first saw it until I did more research.

Sounds like a cool center or foundation or whatever it is, I wonder what became of it.

My question for joo is why does Tim Leary always talk like he's tranquilized?

I respect him of course and I think he's smart and whatnot but sometimes he communicates like an effeminate Dubya.

Ellemy: I didn't like him until today. The name is just a coinsidence.

Glory: I thought it was real at first to, but I guess it's not(although someone theorized that the Leary family are covering up the fact that Leary did have his head decapitated in that movie and then frozen?). But you can see him applying stuff to his face which is used in making the fake head at the end.

bio: No, I haven't tried bit torrent yet, but I have your PM saved for when I want to try it. Are you saying that I could have posted this album for everyone using much less space? Would everyone have been able to access it without downloading any software or what have you?

question for joo: The Castilia Foundation became "IFIF"(International Foundation For Internal Freedom) which became "LSD"(League For Spiritual Discovery) as is my understanding. This album and the "LSD" album are the two that he sounds most subdued. I guess he was just stoned and in a meditative mood. I'm sure he was usually in a more meditative mood than most people.

Everyone else: You're welcome.

How many people here had heard and/or had been looking for this album? Also, i'd really like to hear some comments about the album from whomever downloaded it.

Below is the back cover of the album....

I looked up some more information about the Castalia Foundation online. It said that it was over 2,500 acres, paid for by some multimillionaire. That's nice of whoever it was.

I liked the part where Leary was describing the night sessions at the Mexican hotel, you know usually ending up in the water looking out across the ocean. That'd be a great way to trip but it's so hard to find an isolated beach anymore these days.

I didn't like the end where he starts going on the attack because
A) he gets really judgemental and puritanical in his own way... The undertone of 'straight people are stupid and or evil' is just below the surface.
B) it's not realistic and it seems like he doesn't offer an alternative he just says you know "you must leave your job" "you must leave your school" "you must leave all your social connections." Great.... What about those of us who don't have a millionaire paying our rent?

Yeah, Peggy Hitchcock who was heiress of the Mellon fortune let him use the house for free as a tax write-off. I've seen footage from their times at Millbrook. It was beautiful. I remember one sceen showing about 6 naked people in a circle on their knees bowing up and down. One part of the land was called "heaven" by the residents. Millbrook must have been an incredible place. I'd give anything to have been there.

Yeah, you can really hear the anger in Leary's voice on this album as well as the "LSD" album. It's totally understandable considering he was hated by the US government for having a subversive ideology. FBI raided his house a few times I believe. He was set up by the cops. He was handed a 30 year sentence because of things he said. I'd be pissed off to. And yes, he did have some unrealistic beliefs. But he really didn't realize how hard the government would crack down. I believe that Leary's vision could have been a reality if it had been allowed to.

Thanks for commenting on it though.  Here's a picture of Leary at Millbrook.

when you create a torrent you'd only be uploading (seeding) once...and then everyone else would be downloading from each other. you wouldnt really be posting the album anywhere - it would simply be spread around. This minimizes the burden from any one individual and decentralizes things - there would be no need for space. downloading speeds would also be much faster. in order to use torrents, you'd need a client - but it seems like most people have these already. ABC and azureus are the best - ABC being the easiest to install/setup.

I think shroomery members could easily organize an unofficial bittorrent ring for such rare recordings as these.

It is a psychological spoken word album, where Leary guides your trip towards enlightenment.

This was how he started to really change the world on a large scale.
