Coconut Fiber Brands

Ok so yeah, I've been reading here about coconut husk fiber, and given that this dreaded scourge of Trichoderma is unabating, I figured I'd give it a try. I've seen reccomended here a brand called Gro-Brick, but this local store had only this brand: Growcoir. Packaging says nothing specifically about coconut, but guy at store swears by it. Anyone familiar with this brand?

I hear ya man. This peat moss is for the birds. It's like some kind of red carpet for that nasty green mold. Come feast and party on my mycelium you wretched little parasite nasties. Not.

So coconut fiber has got good press here. I was kinda looking forward to a posty-response from someone who has tried at least one--if not several--brands of the stuff. Some of it--that's commonly used in reptile terrariums, etc (in fact my own beloved Tarantula LOVES the stuff) is supposedly treated with anti-fungal agents and whatnot. Not the sort of thing you'd offer an esteemed (and invited) fungal guest as a little drinkie-poo. Maybe a second call out to the community for a response?

My friend too was encouraged by the positive response coconut fiber was receiving. All my previous peat based casing (except 1 ) contaminated after 1st flush. He purchased Bed o' Beast from Petsmart and rehydrated with boiling water and let cool. After mixing with oyster shell he cased 8 1/2 pint BRF cakes of Thai K.S. The 1st flush is almost over(excellent results!!) and no sign of contam's anywhere. In the future he may switch to Gro-Brick (there is an excellent hydroponics store approx. 30 miles away that sells it in bulk cheap!) But Bed-o-Beast worked fine and all future casings will be with coconut fiber without a doubt. Hope that helps!!
