Coconut Fiber = Coir?
    #473084 - 11/28/01 11:21 PM (23 years, 2 months ago)

hey folks-

i'm going to order some vermiculite and some of those terrariums (normally used for cuttings or seedlings) from DH, and thought about ordering some of that coconut fiber for casing.

http://www.discounthydro.com/growmediums.asp

does anyone know if coconut fiber is the same thing as coconut coir and if i can use it for casing? if so, how much do i need? (they're selling it in 1lb bricks)

thanks. take care!

at about a 1/2 inch depth, one brick has enough to cover about 24 4x8 areas. this is extrapolated though. because about 1/2 of 1/3rd of a brick did 4 4x8 casings at about 1/2 inch. so 4x8= 32 in^2 x 24 = 768 in^2 = 5.333333 sq feet. thus i guess creating about 384 cubic inches of casing
