Have The Dead ever commented on other jam bands?
    #3130096 - 09/13/04 02:40 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

I'm curious if The Grateful Dead members(especially Jerry) have ever pubicly commented on the other jam bands, i.e. Phish, SCI, WSC ect.?

I'd like to know what they had to say about those bands.

I know that one of his favorite guitarists is Steve Kimock, who played with the Other Ones after Jerry passed. He plays amazing music. Check him out!

yeah steve kimock band is doing a little tour this fall... i plan on checking them out. they also play a lot of festivals, i've just never actually caught them.

i'm sure various members have mentioned things here and there.... big surge of 'jam' music these last few years though I think. There werent many touring jambands 10 years ago besides the dead that I know of. Its like when the Dead stopped touring all these little bands started, some type of revolution I figure :crazy2:

its just music is love and we all love each other :sun:

No need to resort to violence.

Just becuase I don't like the Doors doesn't mean that it's bad music. Just not into that music the came out of the LA 60's music scene.

/Me throws Dead bootleg cassette at Learyfan.

See, this is one reason why I'm not into the Dead.  They're all about flower power and rainbows and all that lovey-dovey hippie bullshit.  The Doors dared to explore a darker side of psychedelia, which has always intrigued me.  This is why I'm more into bands like them as well as Pink Floyd and Tool, and not so much into bands like the Dead or the Beatles.

hey now, listen to a really good "Dark Star" and tell me if the Dead don't explore the darker side of psychedelia!

I have listened to that song. It sucked. And when I talk about exploring the dark side, I'm talking musically, not just lyrically.

To each their own.
Personally, while I love the Dead, I still am a fan of The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, etc.

The Grateful Dead / The Dead usually suit my mood, and I usually can receive their songs pretty well. But there comes a time where the Dead just didnt "grasp it", but another band like The Doors, Pink Floyd, etc, did.

oh well... but, if you like the Doors, check out a band called "Cressida". I had never heard of them, and then a really strange Kazhakistani guy I know burned me a CD of theirs... I guess it is from around the same time as the Doors, you can definitely hear similarity in the sound, but I honestly think they kick the Doors' collective ass

Considering you're a Deadhead, I'll have to remain skeptical about that for the time being.
