The mycelium at the base of the mushroom should bruise blue. However there are several reports of cyanescens not bruising a blue color. Even though cyanescens in latin means "of blue color".

Sounds like you might have it. If the spore print is black, then its defiently a copelandia (panaeolus) species. However there are several which are inactive.

Do a search on google.com (under images) and see if that helps you in identification.

Cope. cyans tend to be very small, white to cream colored. Panaeolus antillarum are inactive and usually much more white and larger.

How small are copelandia cyans usually?

^^ Well, Copelandia cyanescens drop black spores as well, but you probably would have noticed some extentof blueing if they were in fact Copelandia...

Here's some pics of some mushrooms I found earlier today. They were growing out of cowshit.

Nope, not them. If they don't bruise intensly blue and have black gills, they're not Cope cyans.

I really wanna find some cyans... I find those Pan Antillarums all the time and they throw me off, you even have luck with cyans in the ATL vicinity?

not copes. Pan Ants. and yes I find them all the time too and they tend to fool you until you've seen enough of them.

I found a shit load of those today. On a lot of them, the caps bruise blue but the stems remain white to tan. Does any body know how to tell the diference between copes and pan antillarums besides bluing.

Although I am certain that none of the pan. antilarums that I've found have ever even looked like they blued whatsoever, I'm not you and don't know what you saw. As far as IDing a cope, I like to see a light butterscotch tan color that fades to grey/white on the top of the cap(almost like the top is blushing tan). In larger copelandias it is more readily seen.

Here are some examples.

Copelandias

Pan. Antillarums

notice how the pan. antillarums are more white and they are shiny like they are waxed. They will most times be bigger than the copes that you will find, but not always.

Even if you rule out a mushroom as an antillarum from a few feet away, it is still good to check the pile anyways as I have found lots of copes growing alongside antillarums.

I hope this helps.

So do pans never have the tan in the center of the cap? Also if one were to consume a mix of the two, does any one see a problem with this? I notice they are both edible, but will they react to one another? I am damn near positive I have some of both drying together, and I am not sure about a lot of them. Hopefully this isnt stupid or already covered, but better safe than sorry.
