Understanding Time.
    #3072997 - 08/31/04 09:45 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Does time exist if there is no one there to time it? one of the biggest influences on our life is time. I think that time is an illusion we have created ourselves, because if everything is infinite then there is no such thing as time. Time is a big way that we grip onto this thing we call reality.
A smart man once said
"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."

hmmm i could go on, but i think i better get some sleep... lol.

Sounds familiar to something I experienced...

Acid doesn't give you truths; it builds machines that push the envelope of perception. Whatever revelations came to me then have dissolved like skywriting. All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake.

Haven't we all? I almost grasped time on DXM once. But I lost it instantly.

Time is just a measurement of existance.

You don't need drugs to realize that.

I got completely obsessed by time on a trip once...I kept looking at the clock to "track my trip."  I was watching the clock so much so that the experience wouldn't end.  I thought if I just kept my eye on the clock my trip would last forever, hehe.  :mushroom2:

What happens if we were to keep track of time going backwards. Like, start the day on 24:00 and move in reverse.  Do you think it would have an effect on the way we live?
I think it makes more sense.  so if its 1:00, we have 1 hour left in the day.  I brought this conversation up with my dad once.  He was like, "get off the drugs, son"

Everybody is so used to having everything "setup" for the next person, people don't want/like change.  I say change is necessary.

So who's with me?

There are many interpretations of time. We are a relatively new civilization, and the idea of a linear time scale is also fairly new. It was created without much forethought, IMO. Other civilizations had much more advanced and accurate measures of time. Time has been based on the sun, the moon, the stars, cycles, even fractals. Yet time is something that transcends all those, though it may be expressed partly in some of them.

Time is dimensionless, endless, beginningless, and immeasurable. Everyone is capable of perceiving it subjectively, but an objective time is merely a way of organizing and controlling societies, similar to governments and religions, though more subtle.

Seems to me time is on the mind of everyone.

And I propose quite boldly, time does not exist. It is a way to quanitize motion. All things are in motion. The human concept of time is a byproduct to measure this motion. Life is sweet, sweet rythm.

this one sounds alot like what i think.
the world is what it is. and there are cycles that repeat in a general pattern, a rhythum. and we use time to find a way of measuring it. its all music baby!

also, i think the way we measure times is much better than the older generations who used moons and suns etc. because as you know different times of the year, and also different parts of the world, the amount of time the sun is visible changes. but with our time we found a way to keep it all organized and know what time it is where we are no matter the time of year. its more precise. i think i worded this badly but im tired...

sorry to post again but just to make my idea more clear.
i think time does exist, and doesnt exist at the same time. it just is what it is. there are patterns and rhythums which repeat themselves. time is a measurement we created. but these patterns repeat themselves according to the measurements we've created, so the measurement existed all a long. so time does exist. its like math, it all works together, you just have to find out how and find a way to represent it. but the actual substance is still there. its just like words. we use words to describe things, and although we have different languages, etc, the thing itself we were describe stays the same no matter how we describe it. it just is what it is.
