I've been working up a really dirty pan MS plate, trying to tease out pan myc from a white mold that grows within the pan myc and neither grows faster. They are like lock step so its really just been "try every method and hope you get one that works". But I'm determined.

Yesterday I had two of the plates showing really promising growth making the jump to the island of clean agar so it was time to grab it quick and transfer. Then on the way over to the SAB I dropped the ziplock with this project in it and it thrashed two of the plates. One was junk already with mold. I managed to salvage the last one because it did not show any of the mold before the fall, so I put some of the clean island growth to cabins to keep cleaning it up. But I have my doubts about it after the fall.

Its mentally exhausting to fuck up like that after a many transfers and getting it this far.

And then during the same session I went to swab some LC to plates to check for bacterial contamination before using and the iso I wiped the jars down with rubbed the sharpie off the jars so now I have crapshoot LC. Could be ochra, could be tat? Guess I'll know soon enough which is which as long as the purity plates come back clean. Could be worse... unless they're contam'd. lol

I hope I haven’t offended anyone with my apolitical comments. I know some are passionate about these things and they often do come from being personally affected in some way. I see that as true for people on the left and the right. I have never ended a friendship/relationship over politics and I don’t plan to. But if someone feels they can’t be friends with me because I do not agree with their views I understand completely.

From where I sit voting at all (regardless of what side you vote for) legitimizes the system we are trapped it. A few crumbs will be tossed to the peasants where needed to keep us in line. I see people who vote as contributing to the system. But I think I understand why people do what they do. I also do not trust in rights. They can be taken away as easily as they were bestowed. Freedom is something I believe we are (or should be) born with but it is being eroded by the system. Once you lose some freedom you won’t get it back.

I have a lot of thoughts on the matters of politics, governance, and many will be unpopular. Heck I don’t even like some of my conclusions. But I don’t see anyone’s life getting better long term from our current form of governance/organization. I don’t trust the government regardless of what puppet is in office at the moment. The bureaucracy is still the same. The lobby groups still have the biggest voice. Corporations are still unaccountable. The central bank still defines a lot of how the country is run. The people are still just collateral for the system.

I’ve been of voting age for 30 years. I’ve not seen much in that time to make me think my vote will translate into anything that will better better for me and my family long term. Once enough people have had enough and see through the facade,  I can see real change happening and it won’t be in a voting booth. It won’t be selling merch and holding rallies. It’s going to be quiet before it gets loud.

I tend to agree with you paste-man. I could never be insulted by actual critical thought--especially from you. You sound a lot like an anarchist if I'm being honest, and thats music to my ears.

Still, I try not to be jaded and be a good sport. People are feeling hopeful right now and I'm glad for it. Some historic achievements were made, particularly in texas and I do have to admit that it does seem like a new sort of democrat that is gaining popularity. Just hope they're ready to work their asses off and filibuster themselves to death. I don't wanna yuck anyone's yum so I do keep my reservations to myself for now. I don't enjoy being an "i told you so guy".  It got old after the first 100 times. I am however, relieved that trump no longer has absolute impunity. (i hope)

One of the contractors I work for with lives half-time in texas called almost in tears. He asked me "What wine do you think pairs well with Shadenfreude?"

to which i responded "oh thats easy. Eiswein (ice wine), of coarse. I recommend serving it cold, as a sweet desert. While retribution is sweet, its best served icy cold."

He said he'd pick up a bottle and thats something I can get behind.

Pasty I actually agree with you. This is the system that BUILT people like Trump and I know in my heart that it will need to be destroyed for things get good. I do tend to think we stand a better chance of doing that if the "republicans" don't hold absolute power.

Time will tell. Hoping Its not the ol' football routine for charlie brown again:

Some hopeful conversation along these lines.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact

After the recent election, a blue trifecta was gained in the state governments of enough states, that this interstate compact could be joined by enough states to effectively circumvent the electoral college and institute a defacto popular vote presidential election process.

There will obviously be battles in the courts over this, as it does challenge state vs. federal powers over the technical versus effective way that the election process is performed, but if it ends up surviving the court battles. This will be a datapoint for how organization and voting can illicit large changes

Im not arguing that voting will solve all of our problems, because voting without organization boots-on-the-ground community-building is not going to do much. Just arguing that its part of the non-violent and long-term efforts toward change.

If voting didn’t do anything peelon wouldn’t have spent half a billion dollars on the midterms (and still lost lolololol).

Anyways, I’m eating crepes.

Not too sure what I’ll do with the day TBH.

I was doing some work in a hurry a couple weeks ago, and, meaning to toss a stack of spent plates that I had finished processing, I accidentally grabbed all my fresh cabins and transfers that I’d yet to wrap and threw them in the trash.

Devastating mistake :facepalm3:

Mass un-cooperation/civil disobedience.  is our best way forward... andvmost importantly.  Non violent.

its been used by  in the past very effectively.

Especially in countries that have gone through what we're going through but tenfold. Ones with legit dictators in power.  But we're definitely on the bus heading in that direction.

On The Daily Show last night their guest was talking about this subject in the book they wrote..

Seemed to make alot of sense to me.

Should we make a Cultivation TIFU thread? I feel like we'd have lots of entries on it.

I feel the confessional does a fine job in the TIFU role.

I hear that.

But then again.

Don't forget about self-defence.

That much, at least, often underpins non-violent protests.

I remember hearing about civil rights workers heading down to Mississippi and being met at the train station with "welcome to the south, here's your pistol."

This thread has been the traditional repository of such admissions, it's true.

But I dunno.

Now that we've got a whole sub-sub-forum, it could be cool to have that. Kind of differentiate it from the larger-scale confessions and whatnot.

If you start it, they might come...

My grandma visited me in a dream last night and its been wrecking me all day. There were these heads of garlic hidden on various book shelves and on each, some fragments of sentences were written in black ink.  She was helping me find them.  At the end of the dream we hugged eacother and I told her i loved her so much and i woke up crying.

I feel bad for not making sense of the garlic messages but now i have to drive across the state to see my parents.  I dont think i properly grieved my grandma dying. She died the same month i graduated highschool 26 years ago and it feels like it was yesterday, today.

Anyway yeah.  Im calling it my weekend now, at thursday at lunch.  Famiy is everything.  Finished a decent sized project today and just before lunch, my clients dogs got in a horrible fight with eachother.  It took me and my three big mexican dudes to break them apart. I kinda smashed them into a corner with a push broom and my dudes pulled them apart by their back legs and we  got one of them locked into a side-yard.  Man.  Never seen a dog fight that bad. Lucky none of my guys got bit.  One of the dogs needs some stiches on the back of his neck.

Anyway I need a little r&r.  Love yall.

After months of doing great fuck all, my first little nameko finally came in!  He's a little stumpy and short and got a weird angle to 'im, but he's got a few little brothers popping up from the block.  I know I can't say nothin' about how he's grown, because I, too, am amongst the morphologically challenged.

Here's some stuff thats still green in my garden. Mostly rescues. Fall is the only season that I don't really have anything blooming to look at. So I wanted to make sure I could get something going at least. The cherry tree that I snagged and a new bush. Three of the four Dusty Miller look great I might upload a picture of those later too.
Hope everyone's doing good.
The pond heater is a hit. The fish literally cuddled up next to it sometimes in the mornings. Like they're taking a bath the pond is at a perfect 68 to 70°.
