Re: I'm told I'm not masculine by my wife [Re: Belome] * 1

further pondering, you don't have to listen to me though:

having said last night "or bail" that might have been a bit rash of me. i dont know either of you personally but i think it would be a shame to throw away this family you have created without attempting to salvage this. your youngest is 1. postpartum depression is real. i didnt go through this specific manifestation of that with my wife, but she was acting real unimpressed with me for a period there too. hormones are an absolute mindfuck and it comes out in shitty ways. i totally get your frustration and the places your mind is wandering, but the woman you originally loved is still there somewhere.

there's more nuance to it than "women love jerks." the male version of this is sticking with a total bitch just because "she's hot." men and women alike are instinct driven but this doesn't mean we know exactly what we want all the time. a bit of well timed assertiveness can go a long way in getting your woman wet. she's gone from not wanting sex more than 3 times a month, and begrudgingly at that, to initiating it herself and not acting like such a dissatisfied brat. this is AFTER you put away your agreeable persona and told her if she's this unimpressed then you can just go fuck someone else. you bit her hard, maybe more than she expected, so you've impressed her and the power dynamic has shifted in your favour. she wants sex with you now, dominate her. give her commands. make her beg for your dick. smack her ass when she cums and tell her what a good girl she is. if you can't find the confidence to do this, fake it and do it anyway. draw from the same well that allowed you to go jekyl. you will earn her respect and it will spill over to other aspects of your life.

you can still be a caring husband without being "mousey"

take some shrooms and meditate on it.

you will be fine.

We get out and go on dates and stuff but she is always unimpressed
I'm 42 she's 39. We got along great in the beginning now its different.

Things have got better since I let my inner dr. Jekyl out. I've snapped. Began to push back telling her how fucking unfair and overly critical and so it ends on a really dangerously unsettled note. So I'm basically feeling like the divorce papers are gonna drop but now she initiates sex more and acts less unsatisfied by it.
Weird.
I always thought if i let out my inner bad guy things would get worse. She treats me better and while she still thinks I need to do better go to therapist and stuff she seems more stable now that ive for the first time in our marriage. Just got mad back. I don't like having it go this way. But unfortunately I really feel like the whole mood in our relationship is more stable. Just by getting mad back. We resolved absolutely nothing as far as I'm concerned but she's acting better to me anyway.

You women really do not want men to be nice. Do you? So why do you all plus my mom brainwash us into being nice?

I think its more individual baggage some people arent able to let go of for whatever reason. We all have some, even if you think you dont. Not sure what past your wife has that makes her act the way she does, but its there, and its influencing her in its own ways. And I wouldnt say (healthy) women like mean guys - but do think women in general respond to men who arent afraid to take a stand, even if its for a cause they cant directly identify with.

I guess its worth considering if this is the hill your marriage needs to die on, but from what ive read above, id say its Not worth ending your marriage over this. Like you said, she kind of responded in a way to your actions and standing up for yourself. Though thats not a long term solution, it is a sign that there are sparks left that can initiate a change for the better. Call me stubborn, but I would rather die trying to make my marriage work if i knew theres the potential for things to be good again than call it quits. If in your shoes, id let my wife know Im never fucking giving up, and she has to deal with it, but i also am not going to be talked down to or disrespected, and she needs to recognize that I deserve a partner who respects me as much as she does. Then id pound the shit out of her pussy, and make flirting with her a regular thing, even if she shooed me away. Id stay persistent, never give up attidude, gonna make this work hell or high water, and just keep trying to overwhelm her with positive husband eenergy till she finally either says fuckit im in too or hands me divorce papers.

Lastly, one married guy to another, if you can establish a routine that involves you two hanging out, and then getting intimate like 1-2x a week, that consistency can be great. Ive found that my marriage loves positive consistency. Weekends after the kid goes down we have 3-4 drinks together watching shows, and then have sloppy ass sex. Thats been our routine for the entirety of our marriage and gets us through a lot of the boring ass stuff like work bills chores and appointments. I look forward to weekend drinks with her more than just about anything..

I think a lot of men don't want to go in this direction, not because they think it'll alienate their woman more, although they use that as an excuse, but because they don't feel like they know how to reign it in and just be limited in this manner. Measured amounts of being a dick can go a long way with women.

it's a total shock to one's lifestyle suddenly having to look after a kid. despite being the father and having no flood of hormones about it, i got a bit depressed after our first kid was born too.

For 99% of human history, childrearing was the work of a large group of people.  A true community.  But those days are over.  My 22 year old son has never held a baby, and maybe never will in his lifetime.  Every human on earth should grow up helping to raise the infants and babies in the community.

To make things worse, we send kids off to "school" every day.

We let government organizations raise our kids.

we're lucky that we have a lot of support on that front.

but that's not the point of this thread. the point is OP finally finding his assertiveness and navigating the nuance of his role as a husband. would love to hear any updates.

Hi, your marriage sounds a little like mine, OP, so I'd like to tell you what I experience from the woman's side.

As above, so below. Everything is a metaphor for everything else. What is marriage, but the joining of two bodies? As you live your lives together, share experiences, and come to agreements, your brains change shape to resemble one another. The physical aspects of your minds become extensions of one another. This corporeal melding can be understood in the way that sex is, so bear with me as I write more explicitly.

A woman's fundamental desire is to envelop her man. I want to understand the way his mind works, I want to be the glue that comprises his family; I want to drown him in my feminine proclivity for bond-making. What I ask in return is that he not flee from my crushing. A woman might bear down on you, pushing you out of her if she's enjoying sex with you. In your body, reader, you know this isn't a cue to distance yourself. It's actually a welcoming: it's an invitation to press forward with more focus. Your woman asks the same of you emotionally.

The hot-crushing of marital conflict is actually an invitation to draw yourself nearer to your woman (whether she knows it or not), but men tend to avoid conflict for a number of reasons. For one, you're usually socialized to feel your emotions are inappropriate, and so tend to hide them. Two, anger is relatively taboo in our society, and constructive anger management isn't taught to most of us. The combination of these usually ends with men who withdraw, who capitulate and go quiet in the face of marital conflict. While this approach can be quite effective at dissolving conflict, it also dissolves connection and a woman's felt fullness of your presence in her life.

Instead, a man who is present with his emotions and present with his womans' feelings is engaged in the relationship. We want a man who doesn't arbitrarily shy away from conflict, a man who respectfully speaks his mind and is open to really listen to his woman, and not just her words. For instance, if you ask your woman, "Do you like this?" and she doesn't speak but her body quivers, do you wait for her verbal response? Outside of the bedroom, too, we need you to be tuned into us, our rhythms, and our moods the way we try to be tuned into yours.

The work of joining two souls to one is all-encompassing. Just like having a healthy body requires exercise, diet, and mental training, so does a successful marriage engage all avenues of self-improvement. You will not be able to be present for your wife if you don't find a way to be present for yourself first. Likewise, your wife cannot benefit from your presence if she doesn't learn what presence is by cultivating it within herself. Not any aspect of your relationship falls solely on the shoulders of one or the other; it takes two to tango.

Disclaimer: I can't really speak for all women, but this is my best guess based off my experience and the experience of other women I'm close to. I'm only 26, my marriage is only four years old and we've only got one daughter who is <1 year old. Take with a pinch of salt. skrimplet out

Not weird. Natural. She needs you to be a monster so she can feel like she can be herself. If you're not a monster she'll have to be.

Because they're told that that's the right thing to want.

Like this here. It sounds good so it's her reality. In actuality handling your emotions is an overwhelming job for a woman and she'll feel constantly stressed doing it.

Notice how I spoke on the female experience from the perspective of being one, but this guy put all the blame on your wife and women without taking into account what role you and other men play in their relationships. This person is single, because they haven't found anyone who does no wrong, like themselves.

You cannot control the behavior of other people, only your own. Master yourself and all your relationships will much more enjoyable. Attempt to master others and die alone.

Personal behavior has to come from a place of understanding of what you can expect. It's really not that complicated. 🙂‍↔️👌🏻

Be well.
