Someone gets mad a local business used generative ai to generate some sort of graphic or advertisement

They say you should have hired a graphic design student, you are telling people to shop local but you are not shopping local yourself


Now imagine instead they used Free Software like GIMP, and made something themselves using Creative Common images

Does the guy who got mad at generative ai also get mad at the owner who made a shitty GIMP image? Because he still didn't hire a local student, the end result is the same, it just reached there a different way

Does the means justify the end?
Does the anti-clanker man need to get mad at GIMP?

Making a shitty image with gimp doesn't reference 100,000s of artist work without consent to produce an image.

While this doesn't net a potential job for an artist. the effort and product are still art no matter the petty energy put into it. therefore local art.
as local as it gets.

Actually I like that otter, its not obviously ai to me, I'm not against ai, but when its screams ai to me like Facebook posts I fucking hate it

I got the idea for the thread from a reddit post that had nothing to do about ai but devolved in it, the thread was about buying local

I also don't honor copyright, I would if it was reasonable, maybe 5 or 10 years after publication, but life of the artist plus 50 years or whatever it is can go get fucked, the information wants to be free

It's not copyright. its ethics.
No one gives a shit about US copyright law unless its your career make money off it.

I don't expect people who don't understand art to understand the ethics attached tho.

While it'd be legal for me to run a bot to scrape every TEK on this board and make a few super TEKs.
When they are too shit to work, and so plagiarized its laughable. i feel like even the AI worshipers on here would get their panties in a bunch about that one.

As an artist, I support human artists over AI. I do see useful applications for AI images and I understand cost and time can be issue for some. Support local artists.
People gonna do what people gonna do though :shrug:
