PE variants are harder to judge but I usually wait for the caps to open a bit, get a bit lighter in colour, bumps may often appear on the stipe under the cap, and they get a bit soft. Squeeze one and if it’s a bit like a marshmallow it’s ready.

Here is an example. See the bumpy stipe and how light the cap colour is. Not shiny, looks a bit dull.

They can definitely get huge as well with good genetics and conditions.

Wow!  OK then…I got a lot to learn.  I’m a noob.  Hats off, sir.

Thanks guys.  They were real spicy face melters.  How do I clone?  I’m not into agar Tek yet and don’t think I can go that deep.  I can’t have Petri dishes laying around…. Is there a simple way to clone without agar?

I was kinda wondering if/when this cake is depleted if I can just kinda bust up and crumble some pieces of the old cake and mix with new boiled/sterilized grain to restart the whole thing…?

You can potentially transfer a pin to some sterile grains or agar to clone. (Grains is a gamble because who knows if the pin itself is clean enough and most of the time ud want to cleanup the culture anyway

Click this link for multiple teks on Cloning without agar

Spent substrates are usually sent outside in a dedicated grow area or to just compost. Although I did see a youtube comment saying that he uses a fraction of his spent substrates as spawn and just keeps fruiting indefinitely.  If you do end up doing that, let us know how it turns out

It's possible I suppose. Over in the zapotecorum thread someone mentioned spawning they're tub during spring summer in a swampy area n before winter tubbing them again n bringing them indoor rinse repeat. So assuming ur stuffs healthy and gets enough nutrients it can keep going?

It was called "super spawning" and it grows some super trich. I learned this the hard way.

Mycelium doesnt run out of food in a normal grow theres still tons of grain in the substrate.  Its simply not immortal.

Try it out though.  Its a learning experience for sure

Honestly don’t be afraid of agar. It’s a fundamental skill to do most cool things in the hobby.

Agreed.

Agar is super easy I was introduced to it in middle school.

Hardest part is taking initiative to learn it 🫡 few hrs at most and a few days n the cost of equipment n u will learn alot n be better at it

And agars super cheap fr ✨

I had a shoebox of semps go for 11 months before.

Agar is super easy! It sounds intimidating but once you try it you will be like "what was I worried about?"

I kinda think it is immortal.  There are single orgasm mycelium that span a thousand miles and have lived for thousands of years in California.  A mycelium has the title for the world’s oldest single organism. I saw a documentary on it.

By the way the blast in the sink and water tub switch seems to have been highly successful.  I’m not really getting big flushes more a steady stream on a few domgs here and there that keep sprouting all over and don’t seem to be slowing down.  This stuff really likes water.  It likes to be WET, like wetter that I was led to believe with all the advice of “misting”. They don’t like to grow straight up either despite the light I provide they want to grow sideways into the side of the tub.
