WTF is this? Wierd Growth (PIC) UPDATE May 04, 2006

I don't know what this is. I am still a newbie but have had success with both cakes and casings. This is probably my first fuck up. I ran out of room in my other growing chambers and decided to fruit these in a large Tupperware with perlite humidification. I have others in similar chambers and they seem to be doing fine. I haven't thrown it away because I am curious as to what it could be? The spores are fine (Hawaiian) because I have birthed a few cakes just fine from the same spore syringe. I am using the 50/50 vermiculite/moss tek. At first, I thought It was dead mycelium, but this stuff seams to be growing. I put two cakes in the chamber as an experiment, they show no signs of similar growth. WTF?

UPDATE: It pinned up and fruited. Here is the pic. Not the best but also not the worst considering the conditions and the fact that it was made from only 1.5 pints of BRF. Note: the stuff that looks blue is just bruising as I picked off the large clumps and ate them before I took the picture.

Those are mutant shrooms for sure. That looks like mostly mycelium growing through the casing. Spray the questionable areas with straight peroxide. If you used a lot of disinfectant or exposed the myc. to various cleaning chemicals--that can happen. It really does not look so bad (just weird). GL.

Actualy those are not deformed pins, those are Stroma clumps. good luck getting a case with that issue to pin, according to both Hyphae and RR even a good scraping + recasing will result in once again stroma lumps...

Thanks for the help. Now that I think of it, the cakes from the same spores that I fruited had the strangest looking mushrooms on them, like one's I've never seen. Def. p cubensis though. I'll let them grow and see what happens. I move in a couple of weeks and will probably throw it away at that point.

Those strange yellow blobs are soma which means that your mycelium has poor genetics. Somethimes it just happens.

The casing has pinned up. The mushrooms look pretty mutated though. The soma/stroma? bruises blue so I'm sure is psychoactive. It will probably dry and I will cook into chocolates. I'm not sure how potent the stoma will be but I'm sure my friends won't mind eating them, I like to surprise them every once in a while with some free chocolates (my favorite way of eating them).
