Psilocybe semilanceata in Norway, found 06/08/2026 * 5

They are here! Urbam lawn, like previous years. Not the warmest summer in memory, plenty of rain, but still very few mushrooms around in general.
Typical summer mushrooms are more or less absent from the woods, chanterelles excluded, which have been quite abundant.
But out walking yesterday I came upon these little buggers strutting their stuff just by the roadside in a very busy area, between a car dealer and a grocery store.

I just found the first UK ones here too. It's pretty early for us in Scotland.

Also those are some GORGEOUS specimens

Nice ones! Interesting habitat.. I have never seen lawn libs in the PNW. Mostly in farmland or natural grassy areas. I have found them once on a golf course in the rough near some sedge grass. It was cool to find them unexpectedly while looking for my ball.

These were not large, but very fresh and quite sturdy specimens. Darker than usual I think.
I haven't been checking my rural spots yet. Just found my first porcini of the season a few hours ago, so
perhaps I'll keep focusing on the edibles for yet another while. Will definitely be posting whatever I find.

Not really super early, the last few years I've been finding them from mid July. Went by the spot today and picked a few more handfuls.
Haven't seen any in my other "regular" locations yet. Or rather, the ones I've checked. Just munching down some porcini I picked
yesterday, first of the season. Maggot free.

That is so cool. I didn’t realize things got started that early for libs. Always nice when you can find clean mushrooms of any kind.

I'm planning on heading out next weekend, hopefully I'm not to late? The last time I had shrooms were like 8 years ago so I'm a bit hazy on the details. However I've been out hiking and saw a big cow pasture with no houses around it which seemed promising. I have to be a bit careful since there's usually an arrest or two each season.

Arrest? Really? Where is this?

In Norway the police doesn't have resources to go after mushroom hunters, unless someone is making themselves very visible or annoying.
And then they're usually just sent off the property. So if you're just acting "normal", nobody will notice or make anything of it.
People who know what's going on will usually not care, people who doesn't know will be oblivious. The thing that is most likely to get you in trouble here, is if you move too close to someone's property, making them suspect you're planning some burglary or theft.
