Stunning

I have found, for me, that i make my best art when I resolve to "sit with it" and let the art lead the way. I feel like these pieces crystallize that sentiment. Pure, organic movement and balance.

I'm glad you have an outlet; this must do wonders for your mental and spiritual health.

Thank you so much for sharing (and thanks JW for the suggestion). This is incredibly inspiring and heartwarming, and i feel blessed to have it in this thread 🩷

Thank you so much Dala, that really means a lot coming from you.
Your post with the tapestry really struck me. I love the geometry, the colors, and the mandala-like forms that came out of it. There is something fascinating in the way the structure is already there, but the dye still has its own life and creates unexpected movements.
What you said about “sitting with it” and letting the art lead the way really resonates with me. That is very close to how I experience my own process.

The only moment when I make a truly deliberate choice in my creative process is when I choose the colors. After that, I let the material act, allowing the colors to meet, push against each other, and blend.
I always create while listening to music. It carries the gesture, influences the rhythm, and helps me enter a more intuitive state, close to a form of meditation. But I am not trying to observe my thoughts or analyze what I am doing. My attention is entirely focused on what appears before my eyes: the movements, the tensions, the emerging forms.
My gesture then consists in searching for a form of harmony between the curve, the color, and the movement. I follow what I perceive as a right line, a line that sometimes seems already present within the material. I do not completely invent it: I rather feel as if I am revealing it, accompanying it, as if the image were gradually finding its own logic.
At times, I simply have the feeling that I have found a gesture that resonates with what was beginning to appear.
So yes, I think you described it very well: sitting with it, and letting the art lead the way. Your tapestry post really shows that balance between control, accident, color, and geometry.

It's a treat to read about your process like that, thank you for sharing. I could totally put myself in your shoes, you described it so well.  I like what you said about "revealing" the piece that is, in some way,  already there. As if you are a facilitator, or an instrument. Very relatable across all mediums of art (I'm thinking music improv, personally... respect the groove and don't force the situation, let it evolve naturally).

Thank you again for sharing and for the kind words. Please feel free to post any of your art at any time :sunny:

It's a mix of both these days. I tend to tweak patterns to my liking. The foot jinglies and scrunchies are my own from-scratch patterns tho. I'm super proud of them! 😏

really enjoyed animating on paper/lightbox today. Rather than fuck about with remembering workflow on a computer program, being able to just pick up the frame and put it aside or insert frames by actually inserting a new square of paper in.
Feels fantastic to do it like that, like the gratification of hands on play that clay mation gives but with the simplicity of workin flat.

I got really into the flow of it listening to some music and very excited to try this on some actual storyboarded or planned out shit.

^pencil

^ink

and 'inbetweening' like this is trippy as fuck. Had I planned better, I would use starkly opposing colours on either end of the spectrum of framesI was workign on the 'extremes' and therefor be able to tell which frame is which and where to place the appropriate lines. Something like that.
Rather than looking at this:

:aweoverdose:

So cool that you found the time and inspiration, because what came out is super intriguing (naturally, coming from you).

Sounds like an approachable method that probably feels way more grounding than a computer interface. I remember making flash movies on the early 2000s (stick figure skateboarders dying horrifically) and thar was tedious af!

Would love to see more if you take it any further!

Here's a flipbook i made in high school. Wish i could make these at work nowadays :awesomenod:

hope you're living rad Dala.
:catman:
Nice flipbook some classic cartoon storytelling right there.
You've got mail!

There is a nciely tacticle- flipbookesque- nature to workin on paper, so far as reviewing the animation being able to do this (mini flipbook vibe):

'rolling' or flipping the pages, limited like 6 frames in this manner but to roll 'em smooth and see the illusion come to life on physical media is just

:realawe:

Sort of like in music production, I'll get 64 or 128 if I'm luicky of bars worth of shit then just get stoned and rock to it for ages then put it in a folder and start something else. A good 30 mins yesterday was flipping and dropping pages

And mate I remember 'pivot stick figure animator' it was fucking tedious lol, do you think that was the one you remember? As far as I remember, it was pretty well used and loved by people.
That's more like early "rigging" and the type of 3d animation people do on the likes of blender AFAIK, moving the joints and all that. Like digital stop motion but sort of... Programmable on rails if you get me.
I think.

Back then it was like newgrounds days, thats when I was a  kid so between the fresh insanity of that, and what cartoons had become just prior to that time period makes me love hand drawn, and exprssive jank.

I'll share some stuff down the line, my main trouble is planning. I need to really plan a few little shorts who continue practise at fundamentals but also have a little spark to them that keeps me smiling and invested throughout.
:hellyeah:
Whereas at the minute this is the metaphor for how I work in animation- Oh shit actually how I live life too:

Very cool work Lithop.

I gotta hit up my cousin.  He's a master at stick figure art/expressions.

He definitely could've and probale should've been a carttoonist/animator.

But instead it's just fun.  And that s cool too.

Ima get him to send me a piece he did for my dad's 50th birthday.    Basically a stick figure biographic comic strip of my dad's entire life.

Yall would definitely like it.

@callmehippie thank you. Done some this afternoon but again just freestyle stoned no planning.  good practise though.

Your cousin sounds like he gets up to some cool stuff!
Expression is 75% of cartoons I believe, so much can be told on the face.

I look at the being an anything as how much love we put in, not if it's our trade. If the two crossover in a healthy and satisfying way, awesome.
But it can really suck the fun out of stuff making it your trade. I assume you have felt something like that in life too man, so while your cousin is doing a cartoon, hes being a cartoonist and while animating, being an animator! Thats how I see it.

we should strive to be what we do while we're doing it... or something

And if he had wanted to get payed for it he for could've gone that route as well.

Ima drop this here.

Just a little foundation work I put down.

when I got back from the beach. I really wanted to paint when I was tripping at the beach. As I was coming down I was feeling inspired.

Got home and got to work

I call it foundation work because this may or may not even end up looking like this when it's finished.

You can see it's just a simple landscape mountains and and River Valley and the sun setting  sky.

But once you start flipping it around. it turns into just some really cool windy Van Gogh type design.  That'll be the direction I go with it. so it won't be a landscape of mountains and stuff when I'm done.

I'll use that background and start creating something new with it using textured paints and my neon/uv techniques. In the end it'll be something spectacular. That's glows.    Im excited bout it.
