Ever since trying GHB I have no intention of ever drinking alcohol again.

GHB > Phenibut > Pregablin > Benzos > Alcohol

I'd have to be completely destitute to pick up another bottle of booze again

Beer is good. Sometimes it's nice just drinking on it. I don't drink to get wasted.

I really like the taste of beer. Like a lager or Guinness. Even the non alcohol one sounds good. I don't go for it though

When I was younger I couldn't limit alcohol but as I got older it's not a problem. It's also easy to put down anytime and not drink for a while. Months to years.

I know some really good Italian wine too. I prefer the lighter kind. Drink half a liter of it no problem. It's tasty

Coming up on 5 years alcohol free!!
My last relapse was brutal and lasted a year of heavy drinking. Really glad I was able to stop again..life is so much easier without it.

when i was a teen and into my 20s i couldnt stop drinking to the point of blacking out, id drink a whole case of beer or even chug vodka

now i can limit myself to maybe 3-6 drinks, but the problem is i drink them if i got them, if i try to keep a bottle on my shelf, ill drink those 3-6 drinks every day till the bottle is done

so i dont keep alcohol around, but i plan to make a small mead maybe in a few weeks, about a litre, it all depends if i can gather enough wild strawberries or not, the bird and bugs might get them before me, the field with the berries are full of birds, and im only there for 3-4 days a week so i cant check it ever day

Someone I know is on that terrible ride. Any words of wisdom for getting / staying sober?

It's so worth it. I just focus on one alcohol free day at time.

I did a lot of AA in the beginning. My first attempt at cessation was in 2010. I've had off and on sobriety since then but have made it over four years twice so a fair bit of sober time.

I don't limit myself with treats, weed and mushrooms. I find it helpful when tempted to drink. I just smoke a joint and eat some chocolate instead. I like non alcoholic beers but they are triggering for some. While tripping on mushrooms, drinking is the last thing on my mind. :tongue2:

One of my first sponsors got me to make a list of all the reasons why I wanted to stop drinking. It was a good exercise and I generated quite a list.

That's about all I have for wisdom.

So if you show back up at AA and tell them how long you've been clean are you treated like royalty?

I use to drink a lot , but not anymore.I am the monkey in charge of bananas. What's my secret? A breathalyzer.I just take a little blow and it tells me when it's time for a little top-up.
Because when I first got it, I used to ride at around 0.20, which is fucking wasted, 24/7.But now I leave it at 0.12, which is perfect.
It's right in the fucking slot, just past the click, that wonderful moment; I'm sober enough to know what I'm doing and I'm drunk enough to really enjoy doing it.
Life is so much better now

Naw dawg no red carpet rolled out. There are lots of people with multiple years who still attend meetings. Maybe a clap if you share it. I could take a cake at my home group but didn't last year. You are expected to stand up and give a big share at cake meetings. I've had a few of them. It's too much attention for me.

My friend wants me to go to a meeting with her sometime so I will but other than that no real plans to go back to attending. I have a good support network with some non drinking friends and family. I realize AA is more than just helping yourself but I'm not into being a sponsor or doing AA chores. I tried being a sponsor once and it was the most awkward thing ever. Thankfully my sponsee wasn't feeling it either. One day I run into him and he's like I deleted your number, we ran out of shit to talk about.

Just burnt out on meetings as I attended probably a literal thousand of them. It almost re traumatized me hearing everyone's horror stories at meetings also.

of course not. i was just making a goof reference. link: :drunkdriver:

i use to drink at least 1 beer a day, but one time when i was sick (virus not hungover) i realized that every time i'm sick without thinking about it, instinctively  there are thing that i stop doing like SMOKING weed ,alcohol , eating exesivly sweet foods and that perhaps these are things i should try to avoid.
i still drink but only on the weekend schedule permitting  and never so much that i can't fully sober up before bed . so between 0 and 2 beers a week

Alcohol almost always leaves me feeling like shit.

Like even one beer, I love the taste of a shiner bock but by the end of it, I always end up with a headache... and I mean literally just one beer, properly hydrated, food in me.

Booze just doesn't agree with me and I'm thankful for it now, cuz when I was a younger I boozed way too much and had my fun but some times it just was not a pretty aftermath

To all the people who have managed to stop, good on ya.
To all the people who enjoy booze, more power to ya.

I stopped (again) because I was getting pain in my stomach near my liver and it scared me after decades of drinking daily. I also started getting big hives on my back every morning and that stopped when I stopped drinking. A gastroscopy showed eosinophils in my esophagus which are a type of white blood cell that is found due to allergic reaction and causes inflammation. I have another scope next Friday I'm curious to see if I have lower levels of eosinophils after 2 months of sobriety.
