Concerned about the impact of AI? Sure.

On the shroomery? Not really. What incentive is there to run a bot here? It would be a strange vanity to want to bot post here. There is no financial incentive and you're 'known' anonymously. Boosting another account does nothing. Truly, what substantially arises except some sense of realizing you can use a bot?

As far as concern over interactions being legitimate: yes, worrisome. Scams are going to continue to increase. Sam Altman, openAIs CEO, tried to warn everyone in 2023. He said we need new ways to verify identity and wanted biometrics to be the way forward.

Here we are in 2026, nearly 3 years later, and people still aren't considering what it means to deal with all our digital presences (shopping, banking, phone calls, zoom meetings, research, news, videos, etc.) without a good way to verify any legitimacy of the input from the other end.

Well the exponential curve doesn't flatten , it gets steeper. So if 3 years wasn't enough time, buckle up.

Yes, I agree with you. I think for now, at least until they get more believable, people are still able to vibe out when something is written by AI by the way it's written. And yes, thankfully this forum does seem free of it, something that isn't easy to come by on the open internet these days.

AI has a way of kind of flopping around while it's writing. Adds a lot of unnecessary fluff and opinion. It kind of  dances around the point.
It's frustrating to read.
It reminds me of the late night commercials on television where they're trying to sell you a book with some incredible knowledge hidden in it. They want to sell it to you they want to talk about it but they can't tell you what it is. Otherwise no one's gonna buy the book…

Learn Your Way: Reimagining textbooks with generative AI

New research into GenAI in education demonstrates a novel approach to reimagining textbooks that led to improved learning outcomes in a recent study. The research comes to life in our interactive experience, Learn Your Way, now available on Google Labs.

How is anyone supposed to feel confident in this shit if it can't even use commas and it doesn't know when to capitalize words in sentences?

Tiny children understand more than this billion dollar heliotrope.

I think having it act as your personal librarian is probably the single most impactful way of using it to empower rather than replace people.

Meta study & literature review are amongst the most important parts of doing science and collating the existing body of knowledge would accelerate learning way more than people realize.

How intelligent is AI actually? When given novel new problems, they struggle.

This would be so helpful to me as a writer. It's actually mainly what I use AI for now--to find information and hone in the curation of my searches.

It's super powerful for anything having to do with law or history but pretty much useless for anything beyond highschool level science.

I envision STEM students having a special version of an AI teacher-librarian created by schools themselves.

"NerdAI, is there a book or study that can teach me more about this?"

"Yes there is. I can rent it for you from the Buttfucker University library if you would like?"

"Please do so."

"I have rented it for you from the library. Would you like to install it on your school tablet?"

"Yes please."

Teachers could even see what their students are reading and finding the most use of and use that information to adjust their courses in the future. 'Hmmm my students really liked this, maybe I'll add it to the required books list' 'Oh a lot of my students used this study. I'll put a link to it on the portal.'

AI "slop" indeed

Walk through of a video generating session with Higgsfield AI team. Kind of cool, but also a bit of lens into how the complicated experience of true cinematography using AI prompting. Kind of shows that the user experience is still in need of some significant refinement, and that the cost needs to come down, a lot, in order for every day people to find use with it.

But for a motivated person with cash to burn, and a really motivated person with a money cap, it is possible to generate some pretty cool videos and edit them together to make a short film.
