I even think, heck, if we could "go back" to like 1960s tech and just stop there. We need to make some kind of hybrid Amish society where we all still get to log on to the shroomery.

Life is just to fucking busy. I just this morning told my wife, that I can’t get sucked into another TV show series and that it’s as bad as social media. Everything is a screen. Including this. It’s just a time suck. It’s taking time away from what is important in life and it really fucking with me lately.

Give yourself a break. Life is for presence, not denying yourself relaxation

I've been getting into seriously playing music again. But even when I'm not really in the mood to hunker down and work on stuff, the fact that I'm thinking about it means that I'll sit there and fuck around with my guitar just because. Even when I'm just stoned as shit and playing around with it like I'm a 4-year-old, it's about 1000 times more relaxing and rewarding than staring at yet another backlit screen and taking in some curated content designed to trigger more engagement for more revenue.

I kinda feel like a dumbass for falling off from stuff like that this winter, and wasting my time on shit like arguing with bots on Instagram.

I'm honestly just fine with around the turn of the century or so. Enough internet to download shit and share files and participate in message boards, but not enough for social media algorithms and the re-invention of the Company Store.

Except when it comes to cars. There, I draw a hard line at computers. FUCK car computers. Even if the future is electric, I'd much rather see analog-ish electric cars that people can still work on themselves.

But sometimes I think about what we've really accomplished in the past quarter-century, and I'm just not convinced that there have been especially meaningful technological advances. Just lots of privatization and a slide into more and more black-box proprietary bullshit. And going back to cars, look at fuel economy. It hasn't really gone up by much on average. Increases in efficiency have mainly just led to bigger and more pointlessly powerful bullshit-mobiles on the roads, because at some point they said "eh, 27 mpg is fine. People want monster trucks with the ability to beat the competition when the light turns green. Plus, we got this SUV loophole, might as well use it."

I hate my phone and I love the Pig.

Living a very low-tech, Spartan existence, I can assure you that you don't miss out. I didn't have a phone until I started my own company, at age 31. This goddamn thing has been detrimental to my everything. But after years of vicious arguments with friends, partners, bosses, the bank, employers etc, I know that if I kick the thing, everyone's going for the jugular. 'How are you going to raise your kids without a phone?'

My life would instantly improve if I cut the cord on my phone. I really want to move to bfe and have a little land and a little house with a big garden and a big heart. My wife would like that as well. But we are torn on my daughter not getting exposure to other kids.

A stable driveway. Mine is a half mile of mostly mud when it rains.

I use local camo to blend in. Maybe long hair, scruffy face, no clean vehicle, generally disheveled in appearance.

My grandpa had a bobcat because every monsoon season part of their "driveway" would be washed down the side of the mountain. It would need to be rebuilt every time.
But their driveway was like more than a mile of Desert Mountain Road.

I'm feeling the anti-tech vibes... I'm the most technophobic IT guy you'll ever meet. Left social media a while ago, and have never used android auto in any of my newer vehicles because I refuse to sign on for a set of Ts and Cs just to get my phone screen on my car radio screen. My bosses know this about me, yet they still let me keep my job. I guess being likable and polite has gotten me further in life than I expected (just like my mom said it would).

Confession - I've been a ball of nerves for the past 24 hours, rotator cuff surgery is scheduled for 7am tomorrow. Didn't sleep any last night, and probably won't tonight either. 6-8 weeks of recovery (i.e. not having a right arm) is daunting to say the least, but I'd probably go on a one handed tri-state murder spree if this didn't get fixed soon. Hell, I would have already been on a digital bitch-slapping spree around here if the technology existed.
