Panaeolus Cyanescens (Pan Cyan) Pseudo-Sclerotia Isolation * 2
    #27776204 -

Earlier this year while isolating a Panaeolus Cyanescens BVI monoculture, I noticed the original plate exhibiting small beads of water over parts of the mycelium.  These beads did not appear to be metabolites, as turning the dish and shaking it showed they were beads of water that easily dislodged.

Over time, the area where the droplets formed began growing as through it was producing a mycelial mass or fruiting body, but a pin never formed.  Instead, the resulting mycelial mass began bruising an azure color over time.

Isolating these mycelial masses to additional dishes showed that they were tough and rubbery, like the consistency of a gummy bear or tough marshmallow.  Cutting cross-sections of the bodies showed that they appeared to be something analogous to pseudo-stones.  They are tough structures which eventually harden and bruise deep azure.

Cloning cross-sections of these apparent pseudo-stones to 10 additional plates showed a similar pattern displaying across the new plates:  Beading forming over parts of the dish, meanwhile the donor pseudo-stone cross-section continues to darken in azure color.

Three of the 10 plates were put to WBS grain on 5/13/2022.  The three plates chosen all displayed this beading pattern with apparent formation of these bodies.

A few closeups of the T1 plates further along:

Took some T2 transfers on 5/28 of the large node at 6 o'clock above.

Thank you for this write-up.
What happened to the pictures? Are they invisible only to me, or to everyone? I couldn't view them.

Hi, thanks for checking out the journal.  From what I eventually studied with these pseudo-sclerotia, there was nothing interesting or worth noting.  I remember that they smelled really bad compared to a typical fruit would and even though they bruised blue I didn't find anything else interesting about them and did not find any strong evidence that it was actually pseudo-sclerotia.

The pictures were taken down due to upload space.  Thanks for checking this out.
