Pan Subs!

These things are massive. the largest one measures a little over 5 inches (big for the subs around here). I have about 45 of them, and since about 30% of them are so large i am hoping i wont have to eat 25 just to trip like the last time.

Quick question: It is still really humid, and about 84 degrees all day with no clouds. It rained all day sunday hard in the area i pick them, so would there still be growth 3 days after the rains? The area is on a slope so i imagine it would drain quicker.

just use the edit function in ms paint...
I'm assuming you are using windows..
sorry!!!! right click/edit/Image/stretch skew/
50% horizontal 50%vertical
then another 50%/50% and it will take it
down to about 80 kb.. Oh and when you save as
make sure to save as file type .jpg for compression...
Hope it helps.. and if you already knew that and can't use
it sorry for being presumtious...Nofindum...

the first pic almost looks like a cartoon....
You seem pretty confident with the ID...
I can't give any input... about an ID on these..
I've heard fan dry for 24 hours...
Then get a container with a screen
a few inches above the surface. Prop the
screen up with boards or what ever... make it
taunt so it's not touching the dessicant..
Then fill the bottom with dessicant..,"well do this first", calcium cloride..
the stuff you put on icy walks in the winter works nice.
This time of year your best bet will be damp rid.
in the paint aisle at the hardware store..
seal the cover and let sit untouched for 2-3 days..
That should do the trick...I like them better fresh..
But as you know they go to shit quickly..

those are definately Pans, but they look far from any of the forms of subbalteatus i have seen. what is your general area? the slightly blueing grass dewlling Pans i found in california [presumably P. castanaeifolius] looked similar.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

edit: here is the in depth description

location: horse field, near hay bails, but not hay directly on top in South Easter PA (45 minutes west of Philadelpia)
time and weather: 9:00pm, one day of showers, high humidity, 88-90 degrees F throught the day
Spore Print: Black
Bruising: None
Smell: Similar to P. Cubes, regular fowl active shroom stench
Stem: Brown base that fades to white
Cap: Light on top with dark rings, some that look like nipples, mostly half-sphere shapes though
Gills: Dark Brown
