Is that realized gains or not? Makes a difference. And a reminder to anybody who hasn't, to start TAKING some PROFITS off the table.

This cycle might not last as long as everybody keeps saying "we're just getting started"...

Also be cautious of entering any new positions (aside from short term/swing trades), as we're in price discovery mode. And have gone pretty parabolic. It would suck to buy in near the top... But if nobody did, there wouldn't be anyone to profit from.

FYI Sol, PEPE, XRP, ADA are now available on Robinhood... kinda surprised that PEPE is.

@geo what are your buy orders on Sol, $150-180?

We do need to be mindful of sentiment, and when bullish chatter gets increasingly loud and pervasive, that is typically a time to skim profits.  So far, BTC printing an inside day, and I do think there is quite a bit of fundamental wind upon the sails of crypto in this moment, given the number of pro-crypto legislators that got voted into office, including of course the idiot in chief Mr. Trump and his pro-crypto appointments and pro-crypto campaign promises.  The later of which may not be worth anything, but it does play into sentiment, for example Robinhood adding Solana back to their platform this week, apparently because they're no longer worried about it being classified as a Security under the purview of the SEC.  That's a pretty bold front run.

All that said, it is worth noting that Coinbase has surged back into the U.S. Apple App Store top 10, jumping from a rank of 435th the day before the U.S. election.  The ranking of retail crypto apps is a pretty good indicator of how hot the market is getting, and that is a staggering leap for the Coinbase app.  Furthermore, the dollar has been really strong in the wake of anticipated protectionist policies from the incoming government.  Quite interesting to see how fiercely crypto has decoupled from its previously ironclad inverse correlation with dollar strength... we'll see if it lasts.

The scale is tipped toward greed short-term, so ideally, we'll flag here for a bit with some sideways consolidation, working off some of the exuberance to ultimately build a high base from which to continue higher.  But crypto is volatile, and a deeper pull back would not be unexpected.  Following are the golden and platinum pocket fib levels for the two relevant time-frames I'm looking at, as potential support if bitcoin does continue to pull back:

I don't have any bids out on SOL presently.  I have a HUGE position as it is.  In a couple of managed accounts, I had some asks out to exit at least half of the remaining ETH exposure, which I was intending to ultimately move into SOL (minus the portion withheld to cover taxes on the impressive cap gain :tongue2:)... but they haven't filled yet.

Budman might be proud to hear that I took a position in a meme token last night .

This SUPER ANON meme token launched last night on Coinbase's EVM Base chain.  Created via AI, in conjunction with a Farcaster (decentralized social media network) app called SuperCast. Apparently the founder was asleep during launch and received zero tokens, but the Farcaster community has collectively sent him hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of the token this morning in gratitude, and in efforts to strengthen the community network effects surrounding this meme token.

Interesting dynamics at play.  The number of token holders has increased by an order of magnitude overnight (from ~200 to ~2K+), and more than doubled again this morning (to just under 5K holders).  With a market cap of ~$3M, there is room to grow, but liquidity is thin, and you can't move big money in or out of this issue presently. I've been buying $250 lots just for fun throughout the evening and this morning. Up over 100%. Not serious investing, but entertainment on an inside day. 😎

They market sold my Sol $16 at a loss For $100, would be over $1200 atm. Not to mention how ever much would have been added.
Luckily that wasn't the only place i had Sol.

Curious what some think will happen with monero since BTC is going up, and monero is at an almost low for the past several weeks, as it floats between 140-165...
It is a privacy token, perhaps THE privacy token, and wondering if anyone has heard how the new administration will be anti-monero or not

There's no underlying positive thesis for things like Zcash or Monero.  They're epic privacy coins, and totally suitable for that purpose... but as a vehicle for investment seeking capital gains?  I'm sorry to say it's a non starter. :undecided:

Lots of stuff is working.  Amazing how resilient crypto has been to the continued dollar strength.

I like the fundamental thesis behind FIL (distributed storage), but boy did it suffer a massively crushing fall from its lofty highs. Nevertheless, it has been basing for months around $4 and looks like it could be getting frisky RHRN.  Volume picking up and moving through the 200 day MA after back testing the 50 last week.  Would keep at stop at $3.75, but otherwise this is a pretty decent setup.

Same, I have 144 XRP in my account that I didn’t exchange for SOL because 4 months ago it just wasn’t a significant amount of money. About 2 years ago my brother couldn’t figure out how to login to his Coinbase and asked if I could just buy $100 for him. I did and he immediately texted saying oh nevermind I found the password, so I just kept it

Both XRP and XLM, fun surprises!

I think I'm going to put some more serious money down (currently have around $1200 from an original $450) and XRP is honestly tempting me. I'm considering a BTC/XRP 60/40.

Would anyone recommend waiting on BTC and what price would you pull the trigger at if you were going to do something significant?

If you are "asset allocating" and not just trading, I would be comfortable buying BTC right here.  XRP ain't my bogey, I don't like the supply dynamics and I don't feel like they have a meaningful fundamental value proposition either.  Solana (SOL) all the way.  Speaking of which, it absolutely started RIPPING last night, still up some 9% as of this writing, even as BTC and ETH are down 1-2% on the day.

Feel free to reread this post I made a few days ago for my thoughts on the market in general.  TLDR; IF bitcoin does start pulling back in a more meaningful way, the potential support zones / buy levels I would be looking at are all somewhere between $65K-$77K.

Thanks very much, rereading now

I am indeed thinking of asset reallocating, I expect a decent bonus in February but don't want to miss out on a good opportunity before then so might move some things about or even consider a credit card money transfer if the fee isn't too high and it's 0% interest

May I ask, if you had 30k that you want to hold somewhere for at least a few years what you do? How would you split it? I will of course take your response as educated opinion only. I know that noone can be certain!

If you're looking strictly crypto on that $30K... 50% BTC + 50% SOL.  You can get into the weeds with some smaller cap tokens, but if you're not a seasoned trader, it's going to be difficult to outperform the majors, and SOL has plenty of room to outperform.  BTC will always lead the crypto market, and is positioned in the sweet spot of its typical 4 year cycle, where one would expect continued rapid price appreciation for the next few months (possible selling ahead of tax season in late May/early April 2025).  Solana has a lower valuation and as much (or perhaps greater) utility than Ethereum, and I would therefore expect it to easily test its old highs around $260, and my base target range for the coming year, should crypto generally remain in favor, is $400-$800/SOL.

It's not outside the realm of reasonable speculation to consider $1000+ SOL, but I like to be at least a little bit restrained when I'm spittin' out random numbers. :tongue2:

I mean just look at this SOL:BTC ratio.  Sure looks like SOL wants to (continue to) eat BTC's lunch

I also want to take a minute to explain the levels in this chart I keep posting (this one is updated as of today, but the levels are all more or less the same as the one I posted a few days ago).

Generally speaking, if you are looking at a three year allocation, you should be looking at everything you're considering via a WEEKLY chart. That is the appropriate timeframe for a multi-year allocation.  That said, the above is a daily chart, and is suitable for evaluating entries (i.e. weekly chart = decision timeframe, daily chart = action/execution time frame).

8 day EMA as first support (thin yellow line), short-term golden/platinum pocket between $74-77K as secondary support, fat green trendline w/ 50 day MA at ~$72K third support, medium-term golden/platinum pocket + 200 day MA between $64-68K as base support.

If you're trying to maximize your entries, you'll want to watch those levels on a pullback.  We might not get that pullback, so I would put at least 10-20% of your total allocation in play right now.  Then wait to see if you can find better entries to deploy more capital.  Patience is really hard in investing.  But if you want to invest well, you need to have it.
