Accidental Monokaryon? * 1
    #28917161 -

Feels weird setting a "subject", I think this is my first thread, that I start, on shroomery, after 2 years

Anyways: So back in 28 of July I swabbed 5 germ plates of Country Cock, 2 of those came out like this:

Never had such concentric perfect circle of tomentose growth from a germ plate, let alone 2 from the same swab, usually is a battlefield of numerous germinations.

Like the inscription in the plate says, I sent it to 2qt of grain. The growth continued dense and tomentose, after sometime, I shaked it together with the other jars I birth in the same SAB session. Was the recovery speed and behaviour that made me think I might have pulled a monokaryon by chance. These 2 jar were birth and shaken at the same dates, left is Bluey Vuitton and right is the possible country cock Monokaryon:

Beside microscopy is there any way to confirm this hypothesis?

Hi 9. This jar on the right looks like mold to me. And, that plate looks like mold, too

The proof will be when you spawn. If it’s mold it will grow fast and stay individual and bear no fruit

:lolwut:
Like you said: mold grows fast. This jar has 12days and was shaken.
And mold has never concentric organised growth like the one shown on that plate... at least any mold that I know of.

Mold can make perfect circles

In any case, spawning will let it mature and show its true colors

1.  You're not pulling a mono from a swab germ plate.
2. There are definitely molds that display radial growth and make perfectly concentric outgrowth (just as a heads up/ffr).
3. Accidental Monakaryon is 100% what I'm naming my revival jam band one day.

Get yoself another mono and cross it, you’ll know for sure then 👍
There’s a guy I saw dragging small strands of swabs through agar and grabbing the very first growth he sees upping the chances of monos, it’s a cheap nasty way but easier than diluting spore solutions.
Or just dilute spore solution.

Yeah, I saw too:

Got a better light on the 2qt:

It's looking good to me, just tomentose as fuck and way slower than the Bluey Vuitton inoculated in the same day and that is eating coir for 3 days...
But, if I compare it, for instance, with FP+ it's at the same slow rate  19 days now.

Went for it and mixed 1qt of Country Cock monokaryon spawn with 1qt of the only dikaryon I had ready to go, a Mystery swab sent from a member and the cross happened in a 20L tub

So new toll in the tollbox! gonna cross CC mono spawn with all the clones in the library; CC x Lucid Gates is already in the oven

Still got 1qt of the Mystery swab alone in a shoebox, pinning atm, curious to see the pheno differences

Hell yeah! Nothing better than the anticipation and satisfaction of seeing what your first couple gens of crosses look like! It’s like the first grow rush all over again (:

I think I’m dealing with similar circumstances. I made a thread about it but never got a response. Everything lines up, tomentose, extremely slow to colonize and once it finally did, never fruited. 5 weeks in and no signs of knots/pins. Monos can’t fruit according to EG.

I still have a bunch of cultures on agar and I’m thinking of attempting a cross like you have here. Is mixing spawn with a known dikayron the best way to attempt a cross, or could I transfer a wedge from the mono and a dikayron into a single agar plate and see if they mesh together?

go for it, dude!
I don't think there's a best, it was just the most immediate way, for me, to get an answer to my question since I already had 2qts of grain colonised with the monokaryon. Next, I will try mon-di LC and mon-di agar; just cuz it's a new toy to fuck around and find out :omgawesome:

Just like you, I had a fatlock with a pint of the monokaryon spawn in coir, never pinned... I shamelessly grinded the cake and mixed it with a Lucid gates cake  it recovered/meshed good and was cased a couple of days ago and it's poking the casing, so let's see!

Just fuck with it, there's nothing to lose! have fun

Latest news from the FAFO nursery:
Turns out the Mystery swab is from a Albino fruit (bottom right pic). So in the Country Cock mono x Mystery Swab DI grain mix, the pigmentation of the CC gene was dominant. Get's me even more convinced that a cross happened... that and the 61g dry from 2qts of spawn

The bottom right tub is the mixed shredded coir cakes (CC mono x Lucid gates DI) with a true casing, here the LG albinism gene was dominant and it's pushing, what it seems to be, a squattier pin than typical LG... anywho, too early to tell, but exciting :omgawesome:
