Anyway , those of you that record, dont laugh at the fact I am going to be using the old cool edit 2 I just need something simple that works.
By the way I heard some people say that soundforge is better?? (comments)
I am really starting to like that site suprnova.org so if there is something old that my computer could run, let me know, because although I am downloading cool edit 2 right now, I want to know about other programs incase this one doesnt work.(bad pirate copyy etc)
I tried adobe audition 1.5 and realized I dont have windows XP, then I trid cool edit 2000, but I think I fucked that up by opening the patches that came with my pirate copy, the pirate copy had serial #'s but the patches didnt .....so I think the patches ..."told" the program I didnt pay, and shit went downhill from there.
So ,then a friend does all the work for me, and sticks cool edit pro 2 on a website, but after repeated failures(including trying shareware 4 tracks) I am nervous.

Might it be an idea to make a sticky thread that outlines the relative merits of all the best pieces of audio software? We have the musical instrument repair column- how about a software advice one too?

I agree, my poor ass has been trying to find something for months. I am so sick of just watching my friends use their 4 tracks. (and various computer programs etc) (I am going to try my latest download now...and if it doesnt work I will give Audcity a try thanks )

I used to use Acid Pro 4- very easy to pick up and work quickly with. I'm on cubase SX2 now, but that's probably not a good place to start!

Good idea Rob, I'll work on that this week. If anyone would like to contribute to summaries or ratings of the software or vsts that you use, please PM me with a short piece of text.
Don't bother with Adobe Audition, it is EXACTLY the same as CEPRO2. It's like they bought the company, and rereleased the SW under a different name...
Audacity is good, CEpro2 is fine. it multitracks, it records, it's a wave editor. Soundforge is only a wave editor but is highly complex. Works great, but is mad expensive.
