Morel southern Oregon, which species?
    #28791013 -

I'd like to identify this morel as I'm trying to cultivate it and would like to know the species name.  It was found late May 2024, at 3100ft elevation in a conifer/madrone forest.

Also I'm curious how to differentiate between species, if there is something obvious in this photo that leads to identification to help me learn.  Thanks

Was it growing in a burn?  If so, I might suggest Morchella Sextelata.

Morels are notoriously divergent in their appearance and can be confused easily.

definitely no burns in the last 40+ years.

it was in a steep, undisturbed area  (not including logging 100 years ago or so)

This is another mushroom in the same area (less than 1/4mile away, but on a different aspect, or on a different slope across the creek from the first one.)  Both were around 3100' elevation.

What else could I be looking at to differentiate between species?

Likely Morchella importuna and M. tridentina
