Me and my roommate went to the mall earlier today. We got off the bus a little early to check my Friscosa patch to see if the recent rains made a few pop up, but there wasnt anything there.
We were on our way back when my roommate was like, "look at those." I looked down and was like, "Holy shit MORELS!!!!!!!!
mmmmmmmmmm i cant wait for dinner.

Awesome finds dude! Congrats on the first MOREL score of the season.
I expect a very early season up here in the PNW too. We had a warm wet winter.

Right now....is very early. for info check here.... http://matsiman.com/messages/buyerpickermessagesA.htm http://mushroomexpert.com/morels/maps/progress_maps.html (the maps are really awesome, and the other links can be quite useful, if you have time to read.) This is a eugene based Cascade Mycological Society message board - it mat prove useful. You can ask questions of the locals who are quite knowledgable on some matters... http://cascademyco.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl
I was picking morels at this time in 2004. In 2003 i found a morel on Feb. 27th and one on the 28th in Eugene, Or.

Not to assume anything, but are you looking at south facing hedgerows (laurels and the like) in your neighborhood? Parking lots at say Les Schwab? Red fir mulch is the way to go for early morels in oregon, my bro. Around a library. On a college campus. In the median. Chips that are actually red in appearance, fresh from last year. Look from the car while rolling arounf town... I'm telling you, if you are in oregon, you could be finding morels already. At least Verpa bohemica in the cottonwoods and reeds by the rivers. Those things fetch upwards of twenty bucks a pound in the pre-morel rush... taste like ass, smell like fricken sperm, bu for 20 bucks a pound, i pick verpas in oregon early spring while looking for blacks. ANd oregon ash or madrone/manzanita are good areas in southern oregon. Don't forget Apple trees just about anywhere...
Good luck all, with the morels.
looking for pics here soon...
