what the hell are stretch marks

and what causes them

(I know what they ARE.... ugly scar-like things on my skin... turd want more in-depth definition)

Stretch marks are terrible things, I believe they're caused by gaining and or losing weight too quickly. unfortunately you can't do anything about them.

I've seen advertisements on t.v. for stretch mark removal with some product that reduces scars, don't remember what it is. But yeah, it's caused by the stretching of your skin.

They are scars. Just like chinadoll said, its caused by the stretching of your skin when you gain weight too quickly. Generous lotion use, preferrably one with shea butter, will help guard against stretch marks.

If you rub coco butter on the area they should fade. Also, if you're pregnant, the coco butter is supposed to prevent them from appearing.

back when i wrestled in high school i would get stretch marks every now and then from being in a certain move and my skin would stretch out...feels like its beeing ripped...like a really bad indian burn.

But they went away after a whi le.

Then I must be one ugly motherfucker. I gained some weight when I was depressed, but I have some great metabolism, and lost it all very quickly. So now, I have stretch marks. But I am proud of myself that I lost all that weight that quickly. I am in good health now. I hope that overmasks the fact I have ugly stretchmarks, or I lost all this weight for nothing.

I got them during my fat stage and i was worried that they would be there forever, but they eventually faded. They are kinda ugly though, but i dont think it means ur fat if you have um becuause alot of those really muscular guys have um too.

Shea butter and vitamin E are probably the best defense. I'm not sure if there's much you can do to get rid of them. Possibly reduce the visability but that's about it...

Anytime you gain any sort of mass, whether it be muscle or fat, rapidly and your skin doesn't have proper time to stretch along with the increased mass you will develop stretch marks...happened to me when I had to gain an extreme amount of weight when I went off to college for football...the use of Mederma helps out quite a bit...it's pretty expesive...$40/tube...but it has to be regular, everyday use and the tube lasts awhile.

lots of people, no matter how big they are, get stretch marks. I have seen some gnarly ones on pregnant or really fat people, and stretch marks on perfectly skinny people. Most people, even guys, get them on their ass. I don't think they're ugly in general.

They're just part of what makes you unique!

i watched on tv that strech marks are from when you loose weight.... but i bet those big dark nasty one's are probably from gaining too quickly.....

I don't think I have any stretch marks, but I do have some scars on both of my shoulders.

I got tons of them from when i got dengue fever  :sad: i lost 50 pounds in a couple of weeks! they are slowly fading away though

When your obese, and lose a bunch of weight real fast. It leaves marks. They look horrible.

Almost all body builders get stretch marks at some time. You cant really do anything about it but they will fade in time. Never completely though.
