Using Timothy Hay Cob
    #2863789 - 07/07/04 04:56 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

In case you can't find straw in your area, Timothy Hay can be used as a replacement. I used it in my last grow but I was scared of added contaminants so I prepared it thoroughly by sifting out all the crap. This included removing the seeds or hay 'fluff' as well as dust or dirt. I then cut it up into ~3 inch pieces so that it would stay flat easily in my container, and then continued with straw teks as usual. I suppose this isn't anything new but there is lots of crap in the hay cob.

Just for reference, here are what the good and crap hay parts look like:

Good

Crap

Happy Shrooming!

I have seen Timothy Hay in the pet stores near me...It says things on the package about being clean already. Would this still need to be sterilized before mixing with spawn?
