Right now I am saying, 2 months, then maybe some small amounts of good wine. I really wanted to break the cig habit since I had just started. Good to stop as it starts I guess. Also, my drinking was wine only, but several times a week. I want it back to where I have some good wine on a friday or sat, then thats it for the week.

With the smoking. Stay away from things that would trigger a craving such as coffee beer wine etc... It will get easier.

just remember, nicotine stays in your system for about 3 days, after that the physical addiction is gone. what's left is the mental addiction. drink plenty of water, it'll help flush your liver and kidneys. you'll feel stronger and more healthy within days!

if it helps to know, i'm quitting cigarettes aswell. i will not quit tobaco alltogether because it is a rewarding experience, but when i smoke cigarettes i smoke way too much. when i smoke a pipe i only endulge occasionaly. i wil not be smoking any tobaco at all though untill i get over the addiction [i hate addiction as a personal trait of mine].

Well, I screwed the pooch tonight, sorry but being honest. I had a few glasses of wine, and had to light up, but I geuss for now, its been very limited.

I have just begun the smoking process, I am talking weekends, then a few during the week. Basically, about 1 pack a week. But I worry that it will become a habit, I can feel its hold 2 days after a smoke.

So I messed up based on the thread, sorry :frown:

it very quickly and easily becomes a habit. I hate waking up in the morning and literally NEEDING a cigarette. I get sick if I don't have one. It really sucks. Knowing how much nicotine withdrawls suck, has kept me from trying any addictive drugs though, such as speed, opiates, coke.

If I was a daily smoker, I would think you could just cut back slowly to keep the withdrawl down

yeah, we're a dedicated lot; i smoked half a cigarette after work today. i would like to think i can just cut down until i don't smoke anymore, but that's how i've [almost] always tried to quit and it hasn't worked yet. i'm just going to keep my resolution to quit and get back on the horse any time i relapse. good luck to you Alien.

Well, looks like I am on a good roll now.

Ya, it feels pretty boring, but as you say, you feel so much better.

I guess once you feel good, the hard part is the mental fight to wanna let down and have that fun again. But at this point I realize that if I do, I take several steps back again.

The best part right now is that the anxiety, irritability, and foggy head is really clearing up nice.

I felt excited today and thought I would report my status.

Thanks.

"Cutting down" on cigarettes is not really a great way to quit. Other than using aids (like the patch or gum) the best way to rid yourself of the habit and additiction is to just quit cold turkey.

I was a pack a day smoker for 9 years and tried just about every "crutch" to quit. I finally had enough of waking up in the middle of the night short of breath and wheezing. I quit cold turkey and haven't had a smoke in 7 months. You CAN do it! I did this all while my wife still smokes (even in the house). Tempting yourself with the addicition and NOT giving in is one of the most rewarding personally empowering experiences... you ARE stronger than the drug, just remember that.

I also found these really neat little toothpiks that are soaked in tea tree oils and have a really neat "STRONG" mint flavor. They got me through my initial cravings periods until my body had rid itself of the strong desires. I would recommend you picking up a case of these:

http://www.thursdayplantation.com/products/product.cfm?productID=115

Since you only recently developed the addiction it's unlikely that it will haunt you for long, but for some ex-smokers we still have extremely strong cravings come out of nowhere (usually brought on by alcohol or other events, like being at a concert, ect).
