is there anything special i need to buy for this . or is perlite and a rubermaid container gunna do the trick good enough?

THe only thing I can think to add would be a fish tank aerator pump, some tubing, and a bubble bar or stones to do aeration.

It should. You might have some problems with humidity, depending on where you live and what local conditions are like.
