We have become accustomed to importing a voter base, like a mad cat lady, who can't feed them all. But, you used to qualify for political position based on how many constituents you could physically support.

You could not run for office over more people than you could feed. You could not even serve in the army, without feeding your social support.

A days worth of pay for one person will correlate with macronutrient needs, in the form of calories, and vice versa.
