Gday all. This is my first post so I've done my best to make it a productive one.

I saw these fellas sitting by the side of an old woodchip path in a swamp habitat. Admittedly I picked from two places on the path and cannot remember which pairs were together. We haven't had much rain lately so I think these guys were starting to rot. Found one tiny, white 'maggot'.

01. Stem prints blue on white paper. Cap looks bruised but the color is a shiney sort of dark stain.

02. Some minor blueing of the gills where the stem attaches. Some blueing visible on the stem when I break apart the different layers. Cap and gills have darkened considerably, maybe possibly due to age.

03. Stem prints blue on white paper. Blueing very noticeable on gills and stem.

04. Similiar to No. 2, it's hard to see any blueing. Gills have gone brown due to age and the bruising around the edge of the cap almost looks a shiney black sort of color.

The smallest/bluest one (No. 3) is 20mm wide, while the biggest cap is 35mm wide.
The spore prints are a dark brown, maybe dark purple color. I left part of the stem on two of them which printed a blue color.
My nose isn't too good but there doesn't seem to be any smell... except a slight 'eating mushroom' smell on a couple of them.

Any advice regarding these little guys would be appreciated.
Thanks,
David.

Welcome

I wouldn't eat any of those, some of them do look interesting, but they're a little too old for me to confidently say they're anything in particular.  Keep an eye on the patches and try to see if any new ones come up when you get some rain though.

What does "stem prints blue on white paper" mean btw?  I've never heard of mushrooms with blue sporeprints and prints are left by the caps, not stems.  The spores in your pics don't look blue to me, so I don't really know what you were trying to say there.

DH

None of these mushrooms had a strong smell but a couple smelt like an "eating mushroom" that I would buy and throw in a salad. So I called it an eating-mushroom-smell, not a dirty-old-sock smell

When I cut the stem off a couple I left a bit attached to the cap. I put them on white paper with a light book on top and after 12 hours the gills left a dark-brown print, and the remainder of the stem left a blue splotch in the center.

that blue stain from the cut stem when printing happens a lot with subs.
there looks to be blueing on all the stems and caps, they do appear to be subaeruginosa to me-white stems bruising, golden brown inside. golden tan-brown caps when dry.
they do look very maggotty , check the area again in a few days.

If you found 'em in Melbourne now, it's highly likely they're P.subaeruginosa. If they were among the first ones up in that spot this season, they're probably pretty potent.

Yes they look a lot like the older more rotten subs I find. Just for your information, next time you're doing a spore print, leave them overnight with a bowl over them, i'm not sure what you did, looks like you squished the caps down on the paper. There's no need to do this, just put them gills down and leave overnight.

Still, to be honest, I wouldn't eat those mushrooms purely because of how skanky they look, they're probably filled with worms too. But where there's smoke, there's fire so to say. Check the spot again

Thanks for your help everyone.
I checked the location again, 48 hours later and found some big (but old) fellas plus some newies (gold and fresh) that must've just popped up.

Hopefully a nice patch will spring up....

the bluing from the stem is due to you not cutting enough off if possible try leave as little stem on the cap as possible.
