Columbus police narcotics officers accused of distributing nearly 8 kilograms of fentanyl
September 29, 2021 - ABC6

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Two Columbus Police officers with the narcotics unit were arrested and charged with crimes related to distributing nearly eight kilograms of fentanyl, the US Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.

Officers Marco R. Merino, 44, of Columbus, and John J. Kotchkoski, 33, of Marengo, Ohio, allegedly were involved in distributing seven and a half kilograms of fentanyl, federal prosecutors said.

According to an affidavit, Merino allegedly tried to recruit a confidential informant to traffic drugs with him, and promised law enforcement protection to the individual, and said he could intervene if other law enforcement agencies attempted to investigate the confidential informant.

Court documents say, Merino tried to gain citizenship in Mexico as part of a plan to launder their drug proceeds. He also planned to buy properties in Mexico to run as Airbnb properties, and traveled to Mexico in July.

Between March, April, May, August, and September 2021, Merino accepted $44,000 in cash in exchange for protecting the safe transport of at least 27 kilograms of cocaine.

The attorney's office said during the purported cocaine, it is alleged Kotchkoski made himself available by radio to make any calls that Merino might need, including to other law enforcement officials, to protect the safe transportation of the cocaine. Cell phone data places both officers near one another.

Merino allegedly distributed 7.5 kilograms of that Kotchkoski provided to him between June and August.

Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said Merino and Kotchkoski have been relieved of duty.

“I am flat out angry. The allegations are disturbing and represent a complete breach of trust," said Mayor Andrew Ginther. "It undermines our efforts to rebuild community-police relations at a time when we need to come together to make our neighborhoods safer. The selfish actions of these officers jeopardized the safety of their fellow officers and the community. We will hold these officers accountable, check the abuse of power and remain steadfast in our work to reform policing in Columbus.”

I find it ironic, that state interests have been accused of drug trafficking, ever since it has been a legal offense.

What's ironic? Power corrupts.

This sounds like business as usual for Cbus

I know I'm never supposed to even consider doing that.

I can't figure out whether it is their literal monopoly and sumptuary law for the privileged.

I can't help but feel like the government and authorities are much bigger players in this whole fent thing than most of us think. I can't tell if there's a greater conspiracy to it or it's just greed, but the feeling has been there for a long time for me either way.

I hope if I'm right, that this is a leaking crack in a broken system that will be brought to light more in the future. People need to be held accountable for the suffering they are profiting from or complacent in with this. I know it's been that way for too long, but...

7.5 keys of fent is a lot, damn. Sounds like they were getting a lot of money from protecting the shipments of blow too, I bet way more than the 44k stated changed hands with that too.

Just greed.

Main reason why people deal hard drugs. A big reason why people get into positions of power. They are one in the same. Power and control.

I definitely see your point. It's just that the authorities also seem to also profit a lot off of the crime hard drugs create, med industry from rehab + overdoses, etc...

That can all be directly motivated by power, control, and greed. Maybe I just wonder how deep the rabbit hole actually goes with some of it all. Straight up to the missing top of the pyramid many places I bet, at the expense of the poor like usual.

Well I mean think about it the politicians must love it, for so many reasons, anyone above the "cops", except in the special cases like this where the cops get busted ha. But when the cartel gets caught, politicians look good, taking drugs off the streets, politicians looking good, everything you just said, all the problems that aren't prevented are justified by "dealing" with it later, which is really just a faction of what actually happens.
Really the equivalent of starting a fire just to put it out. Or maybe more like leaving the gas on and lighting a Fuze, then picking up the debris and saying you got the door put back on.

yup I would like to know how many people these cops actually busted due to them possessing fent. I am sure they sent many to prison for the exact same thing for much less quantities.

It's a free for all. People work together in their own interests. End the drug war and these activities won't have a profit margin for police to abuse their authority.

Lol, OK. Drug wars over, we can all go home now.

The g9v started the war on drugs, the cops are the gov. The cartel supplies the drugs. Pablo is the cartel. Simple as yhat.
Everyone else is working for them. Even if they don't realize ut.

:notsureif:

The cops are not the government, they're a state sanctioned gang for perpetuating racial injustice. Individuals within said organizations may act independently in many manners. The people are the government, although they do a shitty job for various reasons. Pablo is dead, and he wasn't succeeded by one individual or even one organization. For fuck sakes there's more to the world than a couple of Latin American drug lords and the charades that go on in DC.

You could start your own gang, or if you go legit you can call it a political party. Revolutions do happen.

There's way money to be made and cool shit to buy if we all legalize and move on.

I see you point bro. But the framework was laid down between the US gov and Pablo. And I'm sure the queen and China and every other 3rd world country is acting similarly. But my point more than anything, is it all starts at the top. And until our governments (lol) or the cartel leaders (might be more likely ha) say this has to stop for the benefit of mankind, it won't. And there's more victims than people who care/are capable enough to make a change I believe. And with that said it will probably never end, but that's no surprise, the world evolves it's love as well as its evil.

And I bet there is a superceded leader to Pablo, wr just don't know it yet.

It would be crazy to see what would happen if the gov would just put the cartel out of business by legalizing all drugs. I think shit would go wild for a bit but ultimately level off, and who know maybe help weed out some fo that evil. But what would be next if they couldn't gain power off of drugs? Which seems like one of the best way to control people ever... next to sex... hmmmm

LEO are the largest and most well funded organized/violent crime gang in the world.

LEO is not one single gang either. Lots of affiliated smaller gangs, and sometimes they work together, just like the guys on the other side of the streets.

In USA the police have historically come from the subjugation of colored slaves. Whilst private slavery was abolished, the state continues to hold the power of slavery of convicted criminals. The war on drugs began as a convenient way to lock up colored people again and put em back to work. 100 years later the racial underpinnings are still clear given current incarceration statistics, however the world is bigger and class warfare has increased in numbers of incarceration as well as wealth gap. The current situation is nuanced, but don't let that fool you into missing the facts.

If you end the war on drugs by ratifying the UNDOC, and in USA by ditching the CSA + Analog Act, the people around the world can move on with legitimate industry and improve healthcare as well as human rights while also likely eliminating most poverty. The corrupt powers that be do not want to change the status quo. In USA ending the war on drugs exposes the class warfare and unifies citizens over diversity, and rather than pitting them against eachother they overthrow the oppressors.

Machines have replaced much of the need for human workers so paying to lock people up is just throwing money away left and right given private prisons. We need more sustainability and less terrorists. The human right to medicine needs to be guaranteed. If you want to self-medicate then so be it. If you want professional help then it can be provided for you.

If you really want to point fingers over Fentanyl  I thought it was mostly manufactured in China.

Yesteryear brought us integration at gunpoint. In the present day, the Great Replacement.

Communism has served us, in the form of labor colonies.
