Off-duty cop charged with sex crime

An off-duty police officer has been arrested after allegedly being caught in the act of sodomizing a 13-year-old boy in a Bronx park.

Luis Delgado, 38, a 12-year veteran of the Police Department, was arrested Thursday afternoon on charges of sodomy. A passerby called 911 after spotting a man engaged in a sexual act with a child at the French Charley Playground in a park at East 204thStreet and Webster Avenue in the Norwood section of the Bronx, police said.

They said that when officers arrived, they found Delgado sodomizing a 13-year-old boy. Both Delgado and the boy ran when they saw the officers but were caught, police said.

Police said the relationship between Delgado and the boy was unclear, but they said he appeared to have gone with Delgado voluntarily.

Delgado, who was assigned to the 41st Precinct, was suspended from the police force. He was awaiting arraignment last night in Bronx Criminal Court.

PARK 'PERVERT' COP HAS 2 CHILDREN

June 13, 2004 -- A Bronx cop accused of having sex with a 13- year-old boy in a park is a married father of two who just bought a new home in Orange County, sources said yesterday.

Luis Delgado, 39, was arraigned around midnight yesterday and posted $20,000 bail. He is expected to be released today.

Delgado, who is assigned to the 41st Precinct, was arrested Thursday evening after passers-by at French Charley's Park called cops to report a man brazenly having sex with a youth in broad daylight.

The 12-year veteran is charged with felony criminal sexual act in the second degree and faces up to seven years in prison.

He has been suspended pending the outcome of the case.

Calls to Delgado's Washingtonville home and to his lawyer, Paul London, were not returned.

Police Officer Charged in Sodomy of Boy

A veteran city police officer was arrested and charged with sodomy on Thursday after a passer-by called 911 and reported that a man was having sex with a boy in a Bronx park, the police said yesterday.

Officers from the 52nd Precinct responded to the call in Bronx Park, near the French Charley's playground at East 204th and Webster Avenue, shortly after 5 p.m., the authorities said.

The police said they saw the officer, Luis Delgado, 39, having sex with the boy, 13. Both Officer Delgado, who had worked his regular day shift and was off duty, and the boy tried to flee but were stopped by the officers, the police said.

Officer Delgado, a 12-year police veteran who was a patrol officer in the 41st Precinct, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree sodomy, a felony for which he could face up to seven years in prison, the police said.
