thoughts on modification. It has a thermostat in it some where to tell it how hot to get, if you could remove it, and replace it with one that goes higher, than you would get better temps. Not all washers are the same though so i could be wrong. L

Hi - You could also adjust the thermostat on your hot water heater. Just crank the fucker up all the way. Maybe switch off any source of cold water running to the dishwasher. Perhaps that will get the party started right. - Insomnia ------------------ I CHOKED LINDA LOVELACE!

dishwasher water doesnt get very hot even if it did get to boiling it only splashes and rinses the surface of the plates. it would take a couple of days for the inside of the jars to even become hot. a few other thoughts -i worked in a hospital and you could fit a few people in the autoclaves they had. find someone working in a lettuce irradiation plant and sterilize by the sack full!

Gese Shaun, how much grain are you trying to cook? Modify your dishwasher .. ... you sounds like Tim Allen from Home Improvement Why not just buy a second pressure canner. 2 22 quart models will hold a lot of substrate. -peace-

I'm an appliance repair apprentice and I wouldn't recommend messing with the thermostat or anything underneath. This might fuck something up and cost a lot of money to fix. They can be pretty costly. That's why most people(except for warranty work) just buy a new dish washer.But...I would do what Insomnia said to do and crank up thermostat of the hot-water heater to the hottest setting. But before you turn the dishwasher on turn on the hot water on the faucet in the kitchen sink so the hot water fills the dishwasher instead of having filled with 50% luke-warm and 50% fucking hot water. And there is a drying cycle that gets pretty fucking hot also. But I would run them in the dishwasher through all of the cycles 3 times to be safe. or what I would do is: let's just say you are making up 20 jars. take 10 jars and clave em in the pressure cooker. then take the other 10 and put them in the dishwasher and run them through all of the cycles once and remove 2 jars, then run them through all of the cycles again and remove another 2 jars, then run them through the cycles again and then pull the rest and wait to cool(obviously) inoculate and go from there. If you use this suggestion and it works, PLEASE post you results. Thank you and have a nice day. Good luck and good karma!

The heating cycle gets really hot in a dishwasher.. i would try one or two jars and then see how that works before sacrificing an entire batch

Funny. I thought about this a long time ago, forgot about it, then my dad suggested it yesterday, and now someone else is going to try it. I know mine gets very hot, although I'm not sure about it's peak temp. Good luck.

You might go look around on Ebay. They have some great prices on some wicked big pressure cookers.------------------ "Not all drugs are good... some are great."
