Phish Lyrics?

OK... so I really dig Phish. I've seen them a bunch of times, danced the night away - they really put on a great show. My only question is - what the hell is up with Phish lyrics? I've come to accept them as a part of the band - they add a kinda goofy atmosphere to the music. But has the band ever been asked why they write such downright silly lyrics? The trend of most bands of this "genre" is to write either bluesy songs (a la Robert Hunter) or psychedelic craziness(again, a la Robert Hunter, or Floyd, or whatever). But Phish... "I look into the finance box just to check my status (finance!)/I look into the microscope I see a golgi apparatus!"

Sometimes it's best to just not take yourself serious....and just be silly..it can be a lot more fun that way.

They don't write that much silly stuff anymore- but i always loved that about them: their juvenile sense of humor; much like mine. The tires are the things on your car that make contact with the road....laugh and laughing fall apart- Runaway Jim takes the cake though. I love that song!

i've never been able to figure phish out. i've had many friends try to turn me on to their music, with various live cd's and i havent liked any of it. there was one live show with BB king i heard that was a jam. other then that, i dont like the lyrics and the singers voice at all.

There's probably as many or more people who say the same thing about the dead. Both groups are hard to get into for some reason. I think the lack of acid in america these days doesn't help...seems like people mainly just go for the live stuff? It's pretty good music I guess, but it's too happy-go-lucky for me to listen to all the time. Makes me feel like my brain is turning into cotton candy.

tom marshall helps write a lot of lyrics...they are supposed to have some depth and meaning to them, or something...idk i think trey kinda describes it in Bittersweet Motel...some of the lyrics are weird, but it's all good fun.

if you wanna try to get into phish i recomend listening to one of their studio albums... probably story of the ghost is one of least popular, but is one of the greatsest phish albums.

I'd say rift...nice and jazzy....but junta is fun if u have a sense of humour and I would recommend farmhouse and round room too.

I dont know what to say other then I like em a lot. I like possum a lot when I am driving. I like there cover of phsycho killer. I like the dog faced boy magasupy police man. Gamehenge is and awsome tape. I wish I still had it.

i've got this awesome bootleg from one of their shows in dayton ohio and they do a great version of psycho killer but a fucking marvelous version of possum....I can understand people not liking them, I go through phases myself, but they are very talented musicians as far as I'm concerned. I love to listen to some phish...

The one gripe I have about Phish is their lyrics. They just don't touch me like Dead lyrics or Panic lyrics. I still love Phish and I think they put on a great show. And I realize they are just having fun and trying not to take themselves too seriously but what really gets me off is when a band's lyrics just tear at my soul with their introspectiveness.

New years was such a great time. They had these girls dancing around the stage in bunny suites. And they had this minni T on stage. I had such a good time.. One night thou I actualy fell asleep in my chaire I dont know how or why it happened but it did.

Yeah...it's such a gorgeous song. I  :heart: Trey. I had this one really special show with him. We got to vibe each other the whole first set- I swear. I was RIGHT across him, at his level, in a bowl-shaped outdoor venue. so we had perfect views of each other. I swear we were staring at each other the whole time. It was so beautiful. Don't laugh. It's true. Actually I don't care if you laugh. LOL I am buzzed. But it's true anyway.

Yeah that song is okay. It just doesn't do it for me though. To each his own I guess. I still love Phish and many of their lyrics I can appreciate, just not in the same way I appreciate the lyrics of other bands.

the lysol getting to ya... But thats ok. I wouldnt laugh. Thats awsome you two had a moment..its so nice to just get connected with a person like that. I like how peoples energies work.. He was giving his all to you..and you probably got this amazing buzz from this conection.
