I.D. Cubensis
    #26153108 -

Habitat:
Eastern NC. Mulch in the woods.

Gills:
black, attached gills

Stem:
Length is about 3 inches, diameter half inch, tannish brown,

Cap:
2-3 inches diameter, caramel brown/white, texture is smooth, convex

Spore print color:
Very Dark. Looks Jet black/purple

Bruising:
Hasn't really bruised blue at all since picked earlier today.

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom is mealy/fresh/mushroomy I guess. Did taste test and it tastes fine too. Just earthy

I Don't Think You Have Psilocybe Cubensis.
The Veil On The Stipe Of Your Mushroom Is Not The Purplish Tint I Am Used To Seeing On Cubes. Also Psilocybe Cubensis Grows From Dung, Preferably Cow Dung, Not Mulch In The Woods. Another Thing Is Your Mushroom Shows No Signs Of A Blueing Reaction, Cubes Will Bruise Blue Within An Hour. I Don't Know What It Is, But It Is Not Active & Its Not Psilocybe Cubensis. Wait For A TI For Exact Species.

Hey welcome to the shroomery.
Idk what you found there but I would strongly urge you not to ā€œtaste testā€ anything you donā€™t know what it is. There are many extremely dangerous mushrooms that grow in areas that good ones do and some look closely alike. Some eating just one mushroom is more than enough to do serious harm.
Like mpseph said cubes bruise blue pretty readily. If there is no blue then itā€™s probably not for you :frown:
Not trying to scare you, just be informed. Liver transplants arenā€™t worth it.
