Hey so it's my first grow with the pf tek and I'm trying to grow some golden teachers. I have 7 jars that I successfully inoculated and colonized with no issues. I have 1 jar that hasn't pinned yet and it's been 10.5 days to be exact. On its 9th day I washed off the verm layer and dunked it for 11 hours in the fridge (initial dunk was in room temperature). Well my problem is that 1 cake pinned 6 days ago with 1 pin initially that grew to be 6 inches and was harvested yesterday then a couple days after the first pin had popped out (3-4 days ago) 3 more pins popped out. The problem is that those pins haven't grown in a few days but I'm not sure if they look like aborts either. They're just staying the way they were like 3 days ago and aren't making much progress. The same goes with like 2 other cakes but with these I haven't harvested anything yet and their little mushrooms just won't grow (again, I dont know if they are aborts, this is my first ) and from what I know aborts have darker caps but I'm just not sure if I should leave them alone which would put me at risk of contam if they start rotting or to just pick them as small little fucks.






The first image is the cake that produced a big mushroom but the other 3 pins haven't grown since at least 2 days if not 3.

Any suggestions?

How is your FAE? That second pic looks like myc is covering the pins which may be high humidity with a lack of fresh air. Once you have pins, you definitely want to make sure you have plenty of FAE or they will stall.

Those pins are not aborts. Aborts will have a very dark cap and the cap will turn black and pointy. They are unmistakable.

I'm fanning at least 3 times a day and misting like at least 5 times. Misting might be a bit too much but I have the fan running at night and my sgfc seems to dry up quicker at night so I mist about 5 times to compensate. Fanning is 3-4x 20-30 secs each. Also, is it normal for a cake from the same batch and same strain to not pin in 11 days while the 6 others have been pinning since like 4 or 5 days?

Hmmm, I assume your SGFC is built to spec with properly sized FAE holes? I know my monos have stalled when I had heavy humidity and a lack of FAE. Once I upped the FAE, they took off and from pins to harvest is about 4 to 5 days.

Of course, you could have too much FAE, or not enough moisture in the cakes, or not enough humidity in the air of the tub for fruits to grow. On later flushes, I have had stalled growth because of a lack of humidity and my sub was getting depleted of moisture. I had to cover almost all the holes and mist the sub and the walls like crazy. SGFC are different teks all together though. Hopefully your cakes are properly hydrated.

I am at a loss. I hope someone else who is a cake master will respond. I hope you get it figured out.

It is not unusual for cakes to respond differently if you inoculated with MS. That I know for sure.
