 When to harvest?

Would like some shrooms in the next couple of days for eating. Currently my cakes have plenty that are atleast an inch long with nice dark brown caps. The caps haven't started to expand yet though. I've read that the smaller they are the more potent...is this true? If so I might just harvest them small so that my buddy and I may have a nice camping trip this weekend. Will harvesting them small hurt the cakes in any way or discourage more flushes? Any thoughts from you guys will be appreciated thanks in advance.

It will lower your total yeild but should be no more of a problem then that.

hhmmm. so harvesting just after the veil breaks makes the next flushs smaller? so if i wanted to avoid that, i would wait until they have a nice full cap?

harvesting when the veil breaks is best...you have full potency and good weight. Mushrooms that abort are supposed to be the more potent small ones. But thats by weight. So 3 aborts are less potent than 3 big mushies, but 3 grams of aborts are supposed to be more potent than 3 grams of matured mushies. So its a weight comparison thing.

well if you wait for fully open caps the spores will drop and slow or stop the myco growth but your shrooms will weigh more picking befor the vile brakes your shrooms will weight less but you should get more flushes

if it heats up inside the dehydrator then yes. the chemicals that F*** you up will go bye bye with heat, so if your gonna use a dehydrator, disable or take out the heating unit. of course, dont do it yourself and get yourself electricuted and blame me =P

if you do not disconect the heat source of it then they could be less potant you just want moving air not heat

A dehydrater can't get hot so it will be fine. Wouldn't use anything else myself

actually... it sounds to me like your timing is about perfect.
if they are an inch long now and you're going camping this weekend... they'll probably be just getting mature by the time you need to harvest them. nothing like freshly harvested wet mushrooms for a camping trip.

mine hade temp control on one of them and the other didnt have any temp control just HOT and the hot one made my shrooms shit you needed 5 grams jsut to get off and the other one that i could turn the temp down on made it so 2.5 was almost too much

Nice, when you speak of veil break can you show me an example pic, Some of my veils are looking like they are about to open up if this is what you mean.

When the veil is about to break, the mushroom's head will start to fatten up/out around the mid section of the cap(it kinda bows out in the middle).  Definitely harvest it before this happens.
*Do not let the mushroom's head open up, pick it before this happens*
