Friends of my mother moved to Saudi to work at a golf resort. They lived inside a highly guarded compound for foreigners. The woman was essentially a prisoner because she had no freedom to do anything outside the compound. From what I understand, nearly all foreigners live segregated in these compounds. Saudi is one of the most oppressive countries and if you are a woman, Saudi is hands down the worst place on earth. Iranians have far more freedom.

For decades there has been an issue with the Saudi government secreting Saudi citizens who have been accused of serious crimes like rape and murder out of the United States to avoid prosecution.

No, it hasn't.  It's just that there are people running the American government who either want to force the issue of a war or honestly believe that the Persians will back down from the Persian Gulf.  In no way, shape, form, mode of behavior or historical event is Iran like North Korea.

Not long after the half dozen or so female activists who organised the protest that brought attantion to the issue were then rounded up and jailed

Vastly different as they are, the idea that either of those countries have no leverage is just insane.  North Korea can vaporize Seoul just fine with chemical explosives and Iran is a regional hegemon.

Two quite different teams can see a particular weakness in a fellow opponent and adopt the same tactics.
In this case it would seem that the current American administration seems more inclined to do deals with those showing some modicum of force which seems, to me, a pyramid scheme style negotiation game.

The geo political reasons why each is trying to gain attention and press on certain points is quite different but they are both proxy front lines and they are both quite the ways away.

Nuclear capability is quite simply the only military threat that now needs to be mediated by those who want the throne.

I dont think there will be war this time round.
I do think the line in the sand is closer to the waters edge than ever before.

If you just flatter trump and go along with the ruse that he’s actually accomplished great things, you petty much get a pass. North Korea hasn’t given up anything significant, while the US has given up enforcement of third party sanctions and military exercises with the south. Kim has played Trump masterfully by simply ass kissing and playing along. Trump and Kim send love letters and act like buddies. It’s all optics without actual results. This is the way he’s always been. Gold plated crap.

Netanyahu is the same way with trump. Naming that town in the West Bank after trump was brilliant. Trump thinks it’s a sign of respect when it’s really just Netanyahu treating Trump like his bitch.

I can’t image there are many (if any) leaders and power brokers who don’t have total contempt for Trump, but if they are willing and able to put up with the idiocy and bury their true feelings and instead appeal to the insatiable narcissism of the President, they are able to manipulate him quite easily.
