ID Request South Australia
    #26110757 -

Habitat:
Found in a pine forest growing on dead wood in South Australia

Gills:
The gills in the younger specimens are light yellow, turning darker to a orange/tan colour

Stem:
Averaging 5cm - 10cm between the specimens harvested. 1cm diameter, white, bare and hollow but still thick.

Cap:
Ranging from 3cm in young fruit to 10cm in elder specimens, gold/orange to brown in the centre of the cap. Some white on the edges of the cap. Smooth and dry. Younger fruits are knobbed and older caps turned wavy and convex.

Spore print color:
Very light brown/yellow. Almost the same colour as the gills.

Bruising:
bruised gold/orange, same colour as the cap.

Other information:
The caps were connected to the stem whilst young and broke away as they aged.

To me, the young fruits looked very similar to cubensis although I know it is the wrong habitat but the elder fruits looked like subaeruginosa. The lack of blue brusing, the colour of the gills and colour of the spore print has got me extremely skeptical.

I can't tell you what they are as am not a mycologist. However can say with 100% certainty what they're not. They're DEFINITELY NOT Psilocybe subaeruginosa.

Definitely not Psilocybe cubensis or any other Psilocybe. However, they appear to be an active Gymnopilus species, compare to Gymnopilus purpuratus. Could you post a pic of the spore print, and can you confirm if you notice any bluish or greenish bruising?
