Summertime heat and humidity in New York affecting mushroom growth

I live in the temperamental temperature and humidity of New York State. I had extreme success growing mushrooms in my dry drafty house with forced air heat throughout the winter, but now that summer has arrived, everything seems to have gone awry. My house temperature in the winter was anywhere between 63 and 68° With extremely low humidity. Now the house temperature probably averages between 72 and 78° With humidity ranging into the 90s.  Throughout winter I misted and fanned religiously and I’m doing the same now but something has changed. Would this increase in temperature, plus extreme increases in humidity, result in significantly lower yield?

Fruiting between 72 and 78 is fine. With that big of a change in humidity between winter and summer months your tubs will need to be adjusted, as in more or less air exchange. On humid summer days you'll want more air exchange. The way I gauge it is by adjusting the tape or poly so that I'm misting once or twice a day which means more tape in the winter and less tape in the summer. Now I just control the environment in my fruiting room so that its relatively consistent throughout the year, but you don't need to do that. Just keep an eye on surface moisture and adjust accordingly

If your spawn room is swinging in temps during the summer this could cause a lot of condensation in jars and lead to bacterial problems, which turns into reduced yields and mold problems in your tubs down the road. I think its a good idea to always control the temp of your spawn room. As soon as the temp swings 7 or 8 degrees in a short time you'll get condensation. Keeping the humidity low in the spawn room is helpful too as the colonized mycelium starts exuding moisture it can create condensation in the jars. Having low humidity, like 30% - 50%, in the room helps pull excess moisture out of the jars a bit. But I don't think that's as important as the temp. Also higher temps will germinate bacteria in grain jars faster. I think 68 - 72 degrees is ideal.

I've started keeping all my grain spawn in unused tubs as still air boxes in a climate controlled room in my basement (cheaper to control the climate down there) all year round. I think it's been helpful

People here recommend not to fan anymore, as it is useless. Higher humidity just means you need to mist less, doesn't it?

Yes but be sure to warm the basement up a bit or your cultures will take forever to grow. That is if you're basement stays between 50 and 60 degrees..
