Standard drinks per week
    #25888930 -

I never knew much about alcohol measurements. Today I discovered that I have 84 standard drinks per week.

I then discovered that 17 million people in my country drink as much as I do.

Now, I don't feel so bad.

Anybody else in my ballpark of drinks per week? Does is effect your life?

For those unfamiliar with standard drink measurements, this will help.

Close to 5 million also have chronic liver disease and cirrhosis, and that number is growing despite the fact that many die every day.

I drink an average of at least 6 pints of 8% beer nightly per week. Never less, sometimes more, other times a lot more.

So at the lowest, my average is 84 drinks per week! 84 seems like a lot. Maybe I'm doing the math wrong?

I drink roughly 0.5 standard drinks per week. I probably ingest more ethanol through food digestion than through drinking.

Alcohol never appealed to me.

I'd say between 32 and 40 per week

It used to be significantly more than that but I'm trying to whittle it down to a halfway semi-respectable level

I drink one to two bottles of wine a night. I’m a high functioning alcoholic. Don’t suffer hangovers unless I go over the usual dose. The only thing it affects is my pocket

I've probably spent the better of the last...idk, dozen years in a functional hangover haze (although barely functional many a time), and then drinking the evenings away until I hit the bed.

And jeezus man, the money. Everyday I was spending $20 a day. Every single day. For a dozen or so years.

If I added that up I'd probably cry. Or slit my throat.

42 to 63 standard drinks a week(2-3 cans a night) if I'm drinking steel reserves or similar malt liquor , and thats just to get drunk on a budget. If I have the money to spend on liquor it has to be significantly higher. In a lowball I mix 50/50 liquor and pop, probably have at least 3 glasses, rough nights I'll drink that until I pass out.

I definitely can feel what it has done to my body and I've only been drinking for 7 years going on 8. I cant imagine how much ive blown on it.... Especially nights out because it takes a lot to get drunk if I'm drinking shots. Last night was my first sleep without a drink whatsoever in about 2 to 3 months.

I'm hoping to keep going with it.

Probably close to the equivalent of 2 bottles of wine per day. Maybe about a pint and a half of 80-proof liquor. So a high amount. People who've never gone through alcoholism may find it hard to grasp how a person can get to such a place, but it's easier than it sounds

Booze is relatively cheap and easy to find. It's also great for quieting your mind, or more accurately, blacking yourself out so that you don't have to be conscious of your own thoughts anymore. When you thoroughly hate yourself blacking out can be a very appealing thing

Is there any side-effects with that much drinking? Are you thinking about slowing down or is it just right?

Heavy drinking can cause liver cirrhosis and affects your brain. It can also affect your heart

With drinking you are often either speeding up or slowing down. Being in control sort of goes against the nature of alcohol. You're usually just doing what you feel like you can handle at the moment

I'm not quite in my 30's yet, and have not been noticing very much damage yet, besides putting on about ten pounds in the last few years. I'm still at a normal weight for my height and age.

I stay hydrated, eat healthy meals, and very very rarely even feel hungover or shitty. I'm sure it'll catch up with me soon enough, but I'm comfortable right now.

If it wasn't for cannabis, I would probably be drinking a lot more than I do.

Drank a lot, for many years. Average 2- half gallons a week, so 80 or so " shots" worth. Maintenance drinker, really never got bombed, but always had a cocktail in hand. Went camping with some buddies, hit it pretty hard for 3 days, 2 days later in the hospital for pancreatitis. Little did I know how much booze affects the pancreas. Always heard about liver. Liver is 100% fine. Anyhow, after a $16,000 ER visit, and now  permanent pancreatitis, stopped drinking 18 months ago. After the doctor tells you - if you end up in here again, it's going to be much worse, and if you turn Chronic,  the rest of your life will be hell, trust me. It's possible that even 1-2 drinks would cause another pancreatic attack ( imagine a semi truck parking on your stomach, worst pain I ever felt) So, I trusted him, and quit. Wasn't that hard, I think the scare and ER bill, set me straight. Lost the urge immediately, never looked back.

Damn that's fucked up.

I heard Avicii died from drinking too much and getting pancreatitis. Sad. Alcohol can be really damaging, its basically a mild toxin.

I have a friend that drinks heavy at least 5-6 days per week.  He's been drinking heavy for over 30 years, so far no problems at all.
I find it amazing really, he eats well and that's about it.
I would guess he drinks 70-80 drinks per week.
