Drank a lot, for many years. Average 2- half gallons a week, so 80 or so " shots" worth. Maintenance drinker, really never got bombed, but always had a cocktail in hand. Went camping with some buddies, hit it pretty hard for 3 days, 2 days later in the hospital for pancreatitis. Little did I know how much booze affects the pancreas. Always heard about liver. Liver is 100% fine. Anyhow, after a $16,000 ER visit, and now permanent pancreatitis, stopped drinking 18 months ago. After the doctor tells you - if you end up in here again, it's going to be much worse, and if you turn Chronic, the rest of your life will be hell, trust me. It's possible that even 1-2 drinks would cause another pancreatic attack ( imagine a semi truck parking on your stomach, worst pain I ever felt) So, I trusted him, and quit. Wasn't that hard, I think the scare and ER bill, set me straight. Lost the urge immediately, never looked back.
