Inky black fruits (with pics)
    #25979235 -

Hey,

what on earth happened to these? They don't smell too bad. However maybe not quite right, neither.

Thanks for input!

Black fruits happen from spore drops and/or bruising. Looks fine to me.

None in this box started sporulating yet, or even opened their caps

Thought so. You can't really see shit in the first pic thanks to lighting, but yeah the 2nd is def bruising. The caps are cracking so this is definitely a fuckin dry environment. Bruising happens when shit is dry so can I see what the chamber is like?

The mushrooms are thankful that you sound so offended on their behalf.

Chamber looks like this. Under the yellow floor there's about an inch of water. Wrapped around the whole box is a transparent plastic bag, which I open to wave in fresh air regularly. About 4-6 times a day depending on schedule. Before I fan, I spray the sides and cakes with water, trying not to spray too much on the fruits.

However lately, when these guys have been growing, I've left the plastic bag with a partially open mouth, and trying to regulate more with the water - I was starting to feel like they were choking in there, although they didn't show any signs of it. Maybe the open mouth is reason for the cracked hat, but the black bruising? I've seen bruising, but it was never black like that.

Bruising can be black and even green. It's actually more common than you'd think.

I actually wasn't offended lol I'm just a dirty ass talker haha. Yeah that chamber is definitely a problem. Have you seen either of these teks?

Also you absolutely need to mist these cakes directly. The cakes are supposed to be glistening with water but no pooling water. The cakes in there are bone dry. Here's what they should look like

Mist when they aren't glistening until they glisten again

Thanks for pulling out those links, I appreciate it. Heard about the shotgun chamber, should probably get it going. Or just go to bulk substrates.

But how much wuold you mist the mushrooms themselves? Or do you mist around them to keep the cakes moist? I thought that if the fruits got too wet, they'd be much more attractive to bacteria. Another thought: could it be that I misted the fruit with the cracked hat here, and that it cracked cause the water dried up on it, like a lip? But that it wouldnt necessarily if the hat itself wasnt misted, or was misted continuously ... ?

In a proper chamber, I mist my fruits directly. Any excess water should evaporate away before wet spots happen. If there are wet spots happening, you need more fae.

This chamber smells a little off, and the black came back on new fruits now, think I've got some kind of bacterial outbreak here.
